I took it from your earlier posts that 9/27/94 and 9/28/94, for instance, would not be able to be released in their entirety individually, either, although maybe I read into that wrong. Either way, I have no problem with a compilation if it's put together like LT30 was.

Does anyone know (or may have read) if 34 w/words exists in a studio form? I'm unclear if they just cut an instrumental or if they have the full track and just cut the vocals on the final.

I would have loved to see it with this package if it does exist.

I just want to say, I do not have a problem like some do with Mario most of the time. But the way your type out UTTAD makes me want to stab you. With a knife.

The interview with Steve made it seem like there was but they just thought it sounded so much better instrumental.

That was my read too, maybe someday that will find the light of day - seems to me that would make a great studio track.

To be fair, there was never a show where UTTAD was played in its entirety, was there? So how about a compilation release from 1994 with all those tunes?

If it isn't something like LT30 where they had these recordings but not the complete shows, I'd rather have a full show than a comp. If it's something like what Mitch and Celluloid are talking about, I'd be fine with it.

How about UTTAD Then and Now? A compilation of 2014 versions of the songs? (Not saying I'd enjoy this, but it's something to think about.)

2 disc, 1 old school, 1 2014. Boom I'll buy it.

If I were DMB, I'd be doing everything I can to avoid comparisons of the UtTaD recordings and their current day "interpretations". Not that these are the worst current songs, but none of them are improved today for sure.

I find all these LiveTrax, RT2, Recently and UTTAD re-releases depressing. Not only do they make me feel old as shit, but this is the pinnacle move of a nostalgia band. Instead of a focus on the future, they just re-package the past.

uh, pretty much every band that has been around for 20 years re-releases albums. it's what bands do.

Leaving out the commentary about the current state of the band, there's nothing wrong with re-releasing material to celebrate things like 20th anniversaries, especially if you have a fan base that appreciates it.

Totally agree with you, but I think that's better.

I wonder how many people around here actually own that 'Best of What's Around' release... I know I don't.

Have we ever taken a poll on that? Would be interesting to see how many hardcores bought that thing.

Agreed...and name a band that has been around as long that isn't nostalgic in some way. Honestly, after 20 years is it really a bad thing?

These albums are actually 20 years old and really don't impact whether the band wants to get in the studio, though, right? I get that they make you feel old as shit. Truth is, if you got UTTAD back around when it came out or shortly after, you actually are old as shit. Album that was 20 years old when I personally bought UTTAD just for perspective: fucking Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. You know?

No one replied to, "hey let's go in the studio" with "nah, let's play xbox and re-release R2T instead"

edit: Oh god, just remembered Animals came out in 1977. When I heard that the first time it already felt so old and now I feel older as I turn 40 very soon :-(
