Just what I needed after that piece of shit earlier today. The Stone was awesome, the set lacked any sort of predictability, Too Much fake into Ants caught me off guard. Jimi is perhaps top 5 all time, Bela makes even me enjoy Lie In Our Graves. The band is pretty tight, the encore is very unpredictable, yet effective. Definitely a special show and one of the best of the tour. Drive faded in on my source, I also needed to seriously boost the bass in WMP, but after that the sound was better than average.

well, look at how few posts there are in this thread. I asked Brandon to dig this thread up from the old archives, and since May there have been like 12 shows, I think I've done 8 of them. Maybe when the tour gets going a new thread will be awesome for the 06 stuff because everyone will listening to them, that way we can compare thoughts on a show. Because everyone's going to want to listen to the rockin' new tunes and 3 Crazy Easies per night.

Yup, favorite. I've listened to a lot of 2000 shows, but this one just impresses me so much. I especially love the flow of the set too. Sure, 2000 had a lot of great shows, but this one just hits all the right marks for me.

Awhile ago on the other board, I got pissy one night when everyone kept saying "flow" this and "song placement" that. I think I referred to at least one of them as "Professor" and asked for one lesson on flow. I think I figured it out with this show. A show has good flow when the songs you don't love (or even dislike) don't diminish your enjoyment of a show at all (Jimi, WAYG, Crash all work well here). We got off to a bit of a rough start with the Everyday opener (aka Soundcheck) and early tour (aka pre-gangster) Too Much. After that, it was balls out. Crazy Easy and Granny were both awesome, great lyrical performance of Sugar Will (I've yet to give my blessing to the lyrics on our site, so don't check em out yet), the perfect length Bartender, a great "5 men living in my head" scat by Dave on Jimi Thing. Dave was all ovr the place on an extended Crash intro. Rapunzel and Crush were great, but Stay just didn't close it right. Anyway, a fantastic show overall, highly recommended. (****)

8.27.00 will always be the poster child example of "flow" for a show, but most people think that since there really isn't one bad song in the set. 6.2.06 is a recent show that I think has perfect flow, as well as 6.9.06 and 6.10.06

6.9.06 is the best show they've done since '02, if not '00. What a phenominal show from start to finish.

You did? My original comment was regarding your post about 9-13-00. I'm not sure what show you think I'm talking about.

The only thing the Star Lake shows are missing is Raven and then you would have probably the best two overall shows of the tour.

Obviously Last Stop, PFWG, STJL, etc. weren't played, but I'm taking into consideration the stage of the tour, songs that were/n't in rotation, etc.

Ah, I didn't even notice what I quoted was from many months ago. My apologies.

No, not exactly a lost show by any means, but I hadn't listened to it in full in a couple of years. What Would You Say is always a nice, funky way to kick a show off, and the Grey Street that follows is just excellent. Nice inclusion of the little vocal thing Dave does on the album at the beginning of the jam. I Did It, well, I hadn't listened to this in years, and it's just as dreadful as I had remembered. The You Never Know through Pig run is just outstanding, with Pig being played far, FAR faster than I ever remember them playing and Boyd not missing a note. STDH --> Grace is a nice little breather after that run, followed by a Too Much that has nothing of note. Great jam at the end of Busted Stuff; it's just too bad this tune never caught on with the full band. This Bartender probably doesn't need much comment at this point , beyond the fact that it sounds like they were thinking of just going right into the Heartbeat at the end of it (apparently they picked up on it too). Unfortunately, they decided to keep the dreadful Space Between in there instead before picking up where they left off and kicking into an absolutely ridiculous Heartbeat --> Rapunzel. WAYG blows, but a nice, spooky little intro kicks off a different choice of DDTW to end the show.

All in all, couple of poor tunes that break up the "flow" (namely Space Between in particular) and the way WAYG has aged (i.e. hideously) take a little luster off of what is otherwise a phenominal show. In either event, it's certainly an enjoyable listen. *** 3/4

Yeah they liked closing with DDTW early on in that tour.

Wouldn't like it there all the time, but it was nice because it was something different.

2004-07-27 - HiFi Buys Amphitheater - Atlanta, GA

****1/2

Sugar Will, Crazy-Easy, Joy Ride, Hello Again, Good Good Time, and Captain helped me give this show a great rating. Add that to a very energetic Two Step, a (like always) very tight Warehouse, and a great encore that includes the extremely surprising Don't Drink the Water and even more unexpectedly the Too Much reprise and you have yourself one hell of a show.

I particularly like the one time only appearance of Captain more than anything else in this show, but it was very worthwhile to listen to the rest of the set. The only thing keeping this from a full 5 stars is the ugly appearance of I Did It, but even this stinker early on can't break this spectacular show.

Great show, so glad I picked it because it made today a good good day!
