Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Birmingham, Alabama setlist: Spoiler:
review: Probably the best show of the tour so far, which isn't saying much. Really just an average show. Typical is always nice, Tripping Billies is interesting as Dave waits until the second time around to start with the first verse. Long Black Veil is pretty funny as when he goes to start the third verse, he sings the first line of the first verse, stops as he realizes it's wrong, then sings the first line of the second verse, stops as he realizes it's wrong before finally getting the right the lyrics ([Only registered users can see links.] ). Lie In Our Graves has the "dance away" like most closing versions. True Reflections is our tour debut and Boyd takes a nice solo where he plays some actual rhythms other than straight crosscut sawed 16th notes ([Only registered users can see links.] ). (**). source: daud - pretty solid recording actually, better than I remembered. Some heavy digi-noise at the beginning of the opener. DMBlive desire: little to none - still nothing special |

Any other recommendations from Leg 1 '03? I know they killed in September but I hate to think that whole first leg was a waste.

8/20/95 is
![]() That reminds me, I listened to 8/11/95 again yesterday and I should probably grade it. First half of the show is your standard '95 fare, that is to say, it's good. Eyes is great, Dave is justifiably a little awkward, but I still think it sounds really good. Makes me wonder who's idea it was to play this particular song as a tribute. Dave clearly wasn't familiar with it. 41 Police is great, love the lyrics about prayer. The Recently is awesome, Dave throws some Eyes lyrics in at the end too which is pretty funny all things considered. The encore is great. Yeah, I know, same as Red Rocks and LT5, but there is something about those solo Typicals that doesn't get old, and I really liked this Watchtower. 4 3/4* Spoiler:

one of the good ones? an understatement. 8/20/95 rivals Red Rocks, IMO

7/27/04.
all the new songs sounded great. rare two step set closer, awesome too much opener. great midset, band seemed on fire. GGT ...> DDTW ...> Too much outro encore.

it's not a "post a setlist" thread. give us a bit of insight and most importantly a rating. Convince someone to either download, dig out, or skip this show.

alright 4.5 outta 5. it probably wont get a 5 to most ppl because they see the LL and assume those songs are crap.
ants opened for the first time in 7 years that night. the band was very tight, lerois solo was beautiful on LLD, the jam in warehouse was outstanding. BOWA to two step to billise to end the set was extreme. and the encore was great. i dont know. its just a great 2000 summer tour show. we all know how great that yaer was. i dont think i need to explain why its so great.

then you're in the wrong thread, brotha. I think this is the only thread I've made here in 2 years, I'm protective of the format. I'm sure there's a "I just listened to ____" thread somewhere that is perfect for that. If one catches your fancy enough to spend a few non-forced words on it and dish out some snowflakes, there's always a place for it in here.
That is a good show, I agree. Did you know... That is the first show the Ladies ever guested on that did not include Stay? true story. |

to go to your point about stay, i remmeber being there and pretty much assuming stay was closing the show after thinking two step was closing the set. but then they played billies and was shocked when rapunzel ended.

12/30/95 - hampton coliseum - 4 stars (****)
killer sound - pre-fm (not sure what that means or how the tape was obtained) Spoiler:
dave is in good spirits and the band is breaking out some "new" tunes on their forthcoming album "crash". awesome "41" and "crash into me" that sound almost finished. a rambunctious crowd that dave mentions to move back (stupid meatheads). typical early banter. no segue between "nancies" and "warehouse" but dave sounds out of his mind (funny stuff). leroi kills "warehouse". full band "little thing" with very interesting lyrics. not your normal d&t lyrics. pretty deep stuff. plus a cool "watchtower" with bruce hornsby. |

This is why I can't get enough of August '95. It really doesn't have one "defining show", if there is such a thing for an era. I think it's what makes some eras just so damn good, like December '98 and D&T's '96 tour. Every show is just so damn special in its own little way.
