Maybe we'd have Drunken Soldier in some form.

But who knows? About Away from the World, I mean. So, maybe you're partially correct.
I think the sound the horns have now are from the chemistry between rr and jc. In the 3 yrs that rr played with dmb, the horns were flat and boring.

'Roi and Rashawn were just starting to expand the sound with various "horn section" arrangements in June when 'Roi had his accident. I think he laid the groundwork and Rashawn carried it on when Jeff came on board and got comfortable.

And not to change the subject, but this is now two legit 'Swim Naked' outros on this 2005 Australian tour. Pretty cool. Lover Lay Down sounds sick, also.

i think it's far more likely that AFTW wouldn't exist at all than to say it would be almost exactly the same.

So you're saying they wouldn't have recorded an album after BW?

Also, I'm not saying it would certainly be nearly identical without a doubt. Just that I don't really see any reason to think it would be substantially different. It's not like Dave would have come up with different melodies if Roi had lived.

no of course there would be other albums, i just think they would be completely different songs.

i mean, i don't know how else to explain the idea of roi living changing any number of events there after. the possibilities are endless.

Plus, Dave may be looking at his musical ideas differently now that Roi isn't around anymore. Maybe he was more motivated for AFTW than he would have been if Roi was alive and if the band was arguing again. Plus, we would most likely have a more motivated Boyd today as well. Unfortunately, he checked out when Roi did.

I'm on the last Australia 05 show right now and man, these were pretty standard, boring sets. Is it bad that I'm looking forward to the '05 Jazzfest show?

I'm fully on board with the possibility of it being different, I just can't get behind the inevitability everyone else is championing.

Just listened to my first Louisiana Bayou of this 'project'....and it wasn't nearly as bad as I remember it being. We'll see if I have the same tune in a month.....

I never minded the song live, it was just those stupid 'yous' that went on forever that annoyed me.

Stand Up from this show was far more infuriating. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Bayou is not that bad.

I remember that first Stand Up, ugh, I hated it.

Only Stand Up that I've enjoyed is the one with Lawlor. And the partials into Cornbread into Recently.

Eh, I dug some of the late '05 versions with Roi and Rashawn trading off.

Yeah, I think I blocked the last month or so of the 05 summer tour from my memory, save for Red Rocks.
