Are we still pretending that The “Batson Sessions” (which has always made me want to throw up with its shameless play off of “Lillywhite Sessions”) were good?
I mean to each their own, and sure, 1-2 songs weren’t all out terrible...but woof.

SU songs have had over a decade to get better live, and many have (YMDT and Bayou as the top examples). I agree with you thus far, but they've only been playing those songs for about 2 years or so. I think some of them could get better, but we'll see.

They're not good at all, but it just showed that there were much more interesting ideas and lyrics that never saw the light of day on SU or any other album in that timespan. As a piece of work it's garbage, but a lot of those songs could have been developed into something worth listening to.

I think all of them have actually gotten worse or stayed the same. However, the songs that came out specifically for the album have fared better. She was great in 2019 with the dropped verse and Tim solo. Really strong. TGIY, while not very good as a song unto itself, certainly got better live than it is on the album. If they're gonna play DYR so much, I think they should actually do something with it.

A tad late to the party as this is my first time listening to these "sessions".
I REALLY like Early Home, Ask and Drive Me Away. I've always been in the minority here with my enjoyment of Break For It. Hearing a studio cut just increases my love of the song.

Im with you on the enjoyment of Break For It. When it was played at Mansfield in 2010 I actually really liked it. I saw it later that summer at Alpine, which i think was released somewhere. But I also agree the Batson Sessions version is very hypnotic and i like it quite a bit.
Early home is really melodically perfect to me, wish dave would play it E1 but i get why he shelved it due to the content. Drive Me Away is good, but i feel like more could have been done on that one. |

Love me some Ask. As is it’s a Stand Up outtake, but those are still good bones.

Well, I think we can all agree that whether it's a treasure trove or not, when your favorite band has 3 discs of never heard studio material including totally new songs leak, you are going to be interested in hearing it.

Everybody was very interested. And most listened and agree it’s mostly garbage.

I think there were some great ideas on the discs. Like most, its no Lilywhite Sessions but it was great to hear Dave start to write some darker lyrics/material again.
