A leak doesn't necessarily mean it's bad quality. A leak that is a transcode means that it's no good, but a leak in essence is an album that is spread before the release date.

1t. Dan leaked a legit FLAC rip last year, that beats any iTunes stream hands down.

Not if it's an "official" leak with someone leaking the physical copy.

And why I am not listening to the stream is b/c I am purposely holding out until an "official" leak, or 9.11.12

It might, but on the various sites that will host the, leaks I am sure someone will/would post if it is a rip of a stream.

I'd assume he means a legit leak, like a non-transcode high bitrate MP3 or FLAC rip.

They won't, they'll try to trick you into thinking it's legit. I'd be wary if you're holding out for a higher quality leak.

It won't last if it's a rip of the stream. It will be reported and removed. What doesn't allow transcodes (if proven) our stream captures. Only legitimate rips from CD, Vinyl, Blu Ray, DVD and Cassette, and the official digital downloads.

It'll show up on What first most likely, but don't be surprised if someone tries to pass off an iTunes stream capture as a MP3 320 bitrate from CD. It always happens with a "big band's" new album.

Once the first transcode pops up, several users will try to pass it off as legit.

If it's something like this new album, where I really care about treating my ears to a legitimate first listen, I abstain from What and Waffles uploads until there's a FLAC version.

No no, I know they don't allow transcodes... but as you said, it'll show up.

Right, I'm just saying it'll show up "mislabeled" as something else, but it will be most undoubtedly be the stream rip.
