Comedy/Comedians Thread
Just figured we could have a whole thread discussing comedy and comedians. Posting interviews, radio clips, tv appearances, etc... by some of your favorite comedians.
[Warning: If you can't handle race, sexual content, or any other touchy subject then leave the thread now.] I didn't really start appreciating stand up comedy 'till I hit my mid-20's. I always loved certain comics throughout my teens but an actual appreciation for what they do and stand for wasn't something I understood until I started hearing comedians talk about what made Carlin, Pryor, Bruce and others so great. Then I started appreciating the art of it and the honesty and hypocrisy. Most, if not all, comics believe being a comedian is one of the scariest things, just you and a microphone and an audience that is judging you every 10 seconds. Are you likable? Are you smart? Are you energetic? Do you have charisma? Are you unique? Are you funny? It must be scary as hell going up there by yourself, hoping you don't eat your own dick on any given night, whether you're doing a 3-15 minute spot at the Comedy Cellar in NYC or doing a 45-60 minute spot at a casino or hall or theater. I think a good clip to kick it all off with is a very short audio clip from Opie & Anthony with Louis CK and Patrice Oneal. Doesn't even need a set up, just listen.

George Carlin will always be my all time favorite stand up comedian. Just an amazing talent and way with words.
I mentioned in another thread, but I saw Tosh do stand up the other night live and had a great time. His act is kind of all over the place, but still a riot nonetheless. I've seen Chappelle, Carlin (2x), Chris Rock, Louis, and a few others, and I always love seeing a comedy show

You edited out your "n word" comment about Louis. You should know that using that phrase offends him.

basically i don't think i've seen any white guy work it in a way that manages to not be offensive, but still hilarious, and uses the word a lot like Louie.

105.9 in Hartford used to do a comedy hour every Sunday at either 9 or 10.. I listened to that just about every week in high school and that got me into some of the classic comedians as well as newer guys like Mitch Hedburg. Right after that was the Grateful Dead hour which was cool

there are times when i think katt williams is hilarious and times when i think he's awful. doesn't help that he's overly self serious and pretentious off stage.

Completely agreed. But when he's funny, he is one of the best out there.

Saw Steve Byrne the other night at a comedy club...dude is pretty damn funny. He kinda crossed the line making fun of these fat kids that looked like they should be home slaving away at WoW all night...he was pretty relentless but in the end bought them a round of patron for taking it so well.

One of the best stand up bits ever. If you haven't seen it, shame. And then enjoy.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with this but it's a clip from the movie Lenny about Lenny Bruce. It's a movie but it's taken verbatim from his act. Without him there would have been no Carlin or Pryor or Chappelle or Louis.

Great thread. Yeah, he's "clean", but I've seen Brian Regan live a few times and laughed my ass off each time. |

I'll contribute. Just pre-occupied. Can't give full attention to boarding right now. I did however feel strongly enough about the thread subject to chime in.
