Took a break from listening to DMB on the reg.

Turn on a random show from early 00's.

Not bad, Roi sounding crisp, Carter and Stefan keeping solid beats, Dave sounding energetic, Boyd in tune(?!). Unique sound with all these different instruments layered on top of each other, but still, the melody is there and they're all able to play a part.

Now, everyone play hard and fast all the time.

your last statement all the way. Hate the way Dave strains his voice to sing some songs too.

Me too. That was a huge head scratcher and WTF moment. I couldn't believe it.

I got a little bit of the same reaction when I heard numerous songs on Stand Up, but it probably wasn't an equal to the reaction with IDI because IDI was the first time we truly heard something like that from this band.

And, as we've been able to see from the solo stuff he's done recently, it's because he's trying to sing over the top of all that noise.

There's no subtlety. It's mushroom stamps all around for the listening audience.

Yeah, the thing I noticed most about that Drive-In stream last week was how bad Dave's voice was. It was really bad, straining through multiple songs, no power, no control. It got better as the show progressed a bit, but man it wasn't great. And I don't think it's all age, plenty of musicians in their 50s still sound good vocally. He's not THAT old. He does seem just a bit out of shape though, which I'm sure doesn't help. We know he still has it but those nights are definitely more far and few now.

On the flip side, Carter sounded really good on the stream. Much better than he's given credit for. Dude is almost 70. He basically sounded the same as always. I'm not a fan of the way his drumset sounds now--the tone, etc. but his playing seems totally fine to me.

Carter is 61. He’s not as old as people here seem to think he is

No it's not. His voice has been getting progressively worse for years. Even when he's playing solo, there are plenty of notes he strains to hit (most of So Damn Lucky and the high note at the end of Grey Street are just two examples).

It's age, combined with wear and tear from years of non-stop touring. His propensity to scream parts of songs and the fact that he is the only person in the band who sings lead also doesn't help.

A lot of musicians do still sound good into their 50s. But a ton of them also lower the keys of their songs so they're easier to sing. Dave hasn't done that yet.

I love Stefan on twitter right now. Posting pics from 1991, gave some info on Peter joining the band, which is never really talked about because most origin stories came out after Peter left.

Oh, what I gotta say to you...

The only cool thing about it was how they stuck it to Metallica and threw it on Napster officially for everyone.

Yep, thought it was a Napster fake/mislabeled file at first except the band put it on there.

Do we know why Boyd was/is included as an original member and Peter was not?
Since they both joined at least 6 months after they started. Maybe has something to do with their first record?

Haha Fonz was asked when he moved to stage left and answered when he got tired of BT dancing in front of him, stepping on his feet, cables, and having his amp turned up to 11 giving feedback all the time

Stefan also tweeted a pic of a VHS copy of 11/19/91, an unknown show.

Was kind of nice how that heated Stefan/Lillywhite Twitter conversation seemed to have resolved nicely.

Someone asked Lillywhite:
@Sillywhite I have been a long long time follower of the Dave Matthews Band. What is up with that Lessard guy? Has he always been that way? It's embarrassing.

He replied:
nothing wrong with
@SLessard. Probably the best bass player I have ever recorded...

That's a heck of a compliment considering all the huge bands he's worked with.

Also, Stefan, in reply to his tweet the other day about BT's dancing, smoking, and stepping on his cables:

"This is something BT and I have joked about in the past, a few times. He owned stage right after I moved as it was meant to be and it let him fly and twirl free and I was happy taking Peters spot standing by LeRoi

I hope my brother is doing okay that’s all I’m saying on that"
