I've heard really mixed opinions on Funny People...most of my friends have trashed it, some bad reviews, but I've heard a few good things too.

nick is the first person i've seen use a word like 'brilliant', but the only negative things i've heard is that it's too long which is to be expected from an apatow written film. i'm still looking forward to it, although i can already tell i want to fuck up that randy character pretty badly.

Funny People is far from being considered a terrible movie when it has so much funny dialogue and likable characters. The films only flaw is it's questionable length, especially in the third act where the story between Sandler and Leslie Mann seems unrelated and unnecessary. On the other hand, if that sub plot had been omitted Apatow would have never gotten his message across. That the love a woman has for "funny people" just doesn't compare to the stable love that a normal man can offer. It's like the bitter truth of being a comedian. Apatow films are always realistic.

Adam Sandler couldn't have possibly done a better job in this one.

And this "too long" nonsense... It's a fine length. Just because it's a comedy doesn't mean it has to be 87 minutes. It didn't feel long at all.

well i haven't seen it yet, i'm looking forward to it, but you're also one of the only people i've heard not complain about the length so i guess i'll see. i'll give anything apatow does a fair chance. well except for drillbit taylor.

Funny people is decent, nothing mindblowing, but it's ok. I also quite enjoyed (500) days of summer. Very funny and well directed.

I saw funny people last night.
It was stupid as fuck. Don't waste your money. Now Changeling is a good movie. |

Dan, honestly, explain to me why it was "stupid as fuck"? It wasn't supposed to be the The 40 Year Old Virgin 2, or Superbad: Even Badder.

Ghostbusters III. I'm defintely in the minority that enjoyed the second one. This could be awesome, but then again, it seems like the threequel is on a losing strieak (X Men 3, Spiderman 3, T3, etc.)

some viewers are hating 'funny people' because it's not what they expected; they see rogen, sandler, and apatow and expect a sex/drug comedy. mismarketing can kill a movie like nothing else. it's certainly flawed (too long, convoluted plotting in the second half, rogen being miscast), but i can't believe people wanting their money back. i heard one person say it was 'worse than being stuck in traffic.' many people would have been happy watching "Redo" or "Merman" because it's what they expected.
