And I haven't named my favorite movies of all time (cause it's really hard) but Crimson Tide is definitely up there. Hackman (who is the same in most of his roles btw) and Denzel were perfect. Great flick.

I think that's what separates good actors from great actors.

Yeah but a lot of "great" actors play the same character over and over. Many of the actors already listed in this thread fall into the same category. So I don't know why Denzel gets called on it.
I seem to remember this board also hating on John Lithgow, who is easily one of the most underrated actors out there. I can't think of one actor who's played so many differing roles in their career and he's performed them all to a T. |

I called out Denzel, because he is always the one I think of when I think of actors guilty of playing the same character over and over again. ![]() One of the most overrated actors in the business, in my opinion. He is in some damn great movies, but it rarely is because of him.

I think, like with great friends, an actor can become a welcome face in a film. I know Bronson is going to almost always play the tough guy with a smirk on his face, but that's why I like him. It's like meeting an old friend. That is his gift, his charm, his genius. Any actor or actress like that might not be GREAT but they're damn good. Getting typecast doesn't help sometimes and few actors are like Laurence Olivier or Gary Oldman. Even an actor like Morgan Freeman. He doesn't disappear into his roles and you always know it's him, but that's why you love his acting. He makes a film better for his involvement. |

Just bought Gran Torino. A very different role for Clint.
Murray has really changed up his acting over the years. I might like his dramatic work more than his comedy. But I recall Caddyshack, Scrooged and What about Bob? and throw that notion out the window. If you haven't seen My Life with Keaton and Kidman watch it. My favourite Keaton performance. Desperate Measures also kicks serious ass. |

Gran Torino would have been incredible if it wasn't for the fact that literally every actor in the film not named Clint Eastwood was pretty much terrible.

yeah, Green Mile is a very underrated film. i cried a lot the first time i saw it. Stephen King is such a great storyteller and IMO Frank Darabont is the best director to translate his great stories to the screen.

training day is good soley because of his performance and character in that movie. that alone makes him a great actor. john q is only watchable because of him, and he carried american gangster. man on fire was kind of a mess but he carried that too. so really man, his movies are all good mainly because he is in them.
