I feel like I've only ever seen him use In-Ears and has for years. At one off gigs like this though where he's not doing a full set, just a song or two or short set with a lot of acts they don't have time to soundcheck and do a separate IEM mix to send to him. It's a lot more time involved, so in those cases just easier to have a wedge.

Love that new solo section guitar part. Really don't like the way he sings this song still though. Way too high for him in most cases, and it's just straight struggle the whole way through, not even sure how he enjoys playing it so much when he's literally dying up to there to hit it. Just takes all the power out of it for me with how quiet he has to go. If he lowered the key just even a little bit it'd be so much better. I wonder if Raab or any producer ever brought that idea up to him, to me it's a no brainer.

A few D&T from ‘15, one I found from ‘17, January ‘18, Radio City, and a few others he’s no-ears. Then a few I found where he IS wearing ears he still has two wedges facing him (yes I am aware that one is likely a prompter), but so why both?

As someone who works in the industry (this isn’t a critique of Dave necessarily) I just cannot understand why someone would use both. I see it often. It’s 2018 - it’s irresponsible for a few reasons NOT to use ears if you can certainly afford it. Before I rant about this, maybe someone has an answer...

Jayes, wouldn't it be easier to use iems instead of wedges? You could set the IEM levels a lot easier than waiting until he got on stage and then adjusting the wedges, right? (even if you had a soundcheck to sort of get the wedges right, you'd still have to tweak it once there's an actual crowd)

It would be much easier, more responsible, and is exactly what I have been arguing FOR.

Could be maybe they weren’t working, or the wireless receiver wasn’t working or was malfunctioning during soundcheck so they switched to the wedges for that particular show. That’d be the only think I could think of. Dave’s been using in ears consistently since at least ‘99 maybe longer. Having both on stage is also probably just a precaution in case something happens to the ears—they blow out, or lose connection or something like that so at least Dave doesn’t just totally stop hearing anything and can’t finish a song. That’d be my guess, have it there to be safe than sorry

Billboard with a little thing on the top 10 Boyd moments... #5 is a song he doesn't even play on c'mon [Only registered users can see links.]

The first 30 seconds alone of this track take you on an emotional journey, and that’s all thanks to the haunting and powerful work done here by Tinsley. He all but dominates throughout “The Stone,” including a stunning solo interlude (listen for it at the 5:24 mark) that’ll stop your heart every single time.

Boyd has never done anything close to what the Quartet does on that song.

Ants Marching from The Gorge '02? He's definitely on that.

EDIT: Ahhh, I see what you mean.

Maybe it isn't #5, I quickly scrolled through it. All of that writing is pretty cringy, but a huge swing and a miss on The Stone. I tweeted her and suggested Warehouse as an obvious miss.

Lillywhite did admit in the recent interview that Boyd did play on The Stone, it wasn't just the quartet. That being said, the mainstream music industry media knows nothing about DMB, does barely any research on them before writing stuff (for the most part) and doesn't give them much respect overall despite their success. But, hey, that's just media in general..can't ever trust them for accuracy these days. It's all fake anyway.
