There's one partial video of Bismarck somewhere online done for a drum video which focuses on Carter, where they use soundboard audio. It was the first time I've heard what Boyd is actually playing on Bismarck and I think it's brutal. Just meandering off-tempo violin lines that distract from the cohesiveness of the other band members.

I like the way he plucks a little bit in Bismarck along with Dave's riff. There are a couple versions where he is in tune and adding a little bit.

Yeah there's no way Bismarck is on this album unless they totally re-recorded it. I don't think they want to do another piecemeal, multiple session album like they did with CT, I don't think that was the plan. They haven't played it live since 2016, so I highly doubt it. I'd be stunned. Also Dave had to be begged and negotiated with to put Can't Stop and IOY on CT as it is. He's not a fan of going back to older stuff. I think CT was initially 90% older songs and B-sides and after Dave "put his foot down", it became a lot of new songs and lot of those got cut off.

It’s also a bummer the horns are muted on that version I think Jeff’s solo is absolutely fantastic. I saw the tune 3-4 times that year but this was clearly my favorite version.

I’ve been on a Bismarck kick lately so if we got a nice studio version it would almost make this album worth something but I’m not holding my breath. Doesn’t fit their MO now.

While true...I'd say that neither does Virginia in the Rain, but it ended up one of my favorite studio tracks from the band, period. I think they have it in them to drop something that doesn't fit the current mold onto the album...and Bismarck would be a helluva treat to get on there. I loved that song. I'm just not building too much excitement and anticipation of it until I see that listed officially from the band. They already dropped it off once. Wouldn't be surprised to see if happen again.

Would be surprised considering they dropped it live completely.

Maybe they kept it off come tomorrow and stopped playing it so it would be more fresh come the next album for fans to enjoy?

Oh, absolutely. Bismarck and Shotgun both got the raw end of the deal on being solid songs that just got thrown aside. Sugar Will seems to be one that, even though they try to toss it aside, they keep coming back...and given that it saw decent amounts of play the last little bit, with seemingly set lyrics, I wouldn't be surprised if that one ended up on this album.

Dave was interviewed during ATFW where specifically said he doesn't like the idea of recording and releasing old material. Alagia had to convince him to do so for CT, and from what we know, Dave ended up getting his way and having several "solo" songs take the place of older B-sides that were supposed to be on it. It's just not his way, so I would be surprised if it happened.

I guess it depends on what Dave means by old material. They dug way back for CT, but songs like again and again and Bismarck arenít really old material comparatively.

Shockingly, Bismarck is now over 5 years old.

It's held up, too. Great song. Lots of good versions.

Two Legs Apart?

I do not believe for a second that is real. If it was, those song titles do not sound very promising lol
