Absolutely. Some is better than nothing.

Music sounds alot like something they'd play before Crazy Easy in 2004 (see: 7/10/04).
Regarding this, the back story I heard about this is kind of interesting, but I forgot where I got this from. Apparently this "improv" was initially a song going to be on Stand Up but while they were recording for Stand Up the song kinda grew in two parts which became American Baby Intro and the other being Trouble With You. This improv was played before American Baby Intro debuted on the summer tour in 05.

Cool to hear "Gonna have a friend of ours come up and join us on this tune, please welcome our friend Rashawn Ross....." at Hartford N1 2005, his first time guesting with the band.

I'm on N2 now, and the Everyday>Ants opener is pretty nice. Another solid show, with Stone, Rhyme and Reason, Bartender, Crush, Granny, Lover Lay Down, and Rapunzel (with Rashawn).

Moving on to 6/22/05 in Scranton. Oddly enough, it was the first time they played in my hometown and I wasn't there, I was on vacation in Florida with my then-girlfriend's family. Glad I didn't really miss much. 'Roi sounds good on the first few tunes, but otherwise, standard. Dreamgirl opener. Woof. Shockingly, Stand Up and Louisiana Bayou from this show are perfect, not too long, good stuff from everyone....and American Baby E1 is also perfect. I suppose there are a few gems from 2005, not really comparing to any other tour, though.

There were some really shitty 2005 sets, that said, this 6/23/05 Virginia Beach show's FIRST HALF is not one of them. American Baby, OSW, The Stone, Hello Again opening run, then sprinkle in Seek up, Rhyme, Crash, #41.

From there, the shit hits the fan.... Hunger, Steady, Stand Up, Die Trying, Bayou and What You Are with a Stolen Away E1, finished with a "Too Much these motherfuckers and leave this motherfucker." Once again, woof. Hope people left after #41 to beat any potential traffic.

Just looked at that set. Wow. Could the first and second halves be any different from each other?

You'll get a boost for a bit in July with the returns of #34 and YNK, but I'm guessing by the time you get to mid-August you'll be ready to off yourself.

The sad thing is that even after you finish '05 you have to slog through that awful second half of '06 and first half of '07.

I'm finishing the Va. Beach one now, and fuck, Stolen Away is a terrible song/huge waste of 5 minutes. That one horn line is cool, and would make for a nice intro to a real song, but jesus, what happened to actually writing a song, Dave?

wow that VA show takes one of the most massive nosedives ever The first 9 songs are actually good, then it goes:

Hunger
Steady As We Go
Stand Up
YMDT
Bayou
What You Are
------
Stolen Away
Too Much

woof

I was not a fan of the band at this point in time, and I really can't imagine going to one of those shows.

I went to Hershey the next night, and it was more shit. I'm a little scared to re-listen:

Hunger for the Great Light
Dreamgirl
Hello Again
Granny
Crash Into Me
Bartender
American Baby
When the World Ends
Louisiana Bayou
Lover Lay Down
Smooth Rider
Stand Up
Dancing Nancies
Stolen Away on 55th & 3rd
Tripping Billies
_____________

You Might Die Trying
What You Are

1 hour and 58 minutes of pure garbage.

is the performance itself a big part of why that show gets so much shit? because on paper, it doesn't even look like the worst set of that year.

i have always said that Hershey show gets shitted on more then others because it was a Northeast show. Most people on these boards are from the Northeast so lots of us we're at that show, myself included. Plus it was also 100+ degrees that day. No way does it deserve "worst show ever" discussion

I think the fact that it was 100+ degrees helped with it being so lifeless. There was no flow to the set, Nancies was swapped in for Drive In Drive Out (a pretty fair trade)....and the encore left me wanting to punch someone in the face.

Maybe re-listening will help....we'll see.

While I believe that there are other sets from '05 that were as bad or worse than Hershey (6/12, 6/15, 6/18...), Hershey is still an amazingly bad show all around.

Hershey starts off with a huge kick in the balls, anyway. A very, very distinct:

(#34)
Hunger for the Great Light

That said, Hunger brought the energy.

What I wouldn't give for a Boyd solo like this Nancies in 2005 in 2013. Not one flat note or sharp skree. That said, the rest of this show is totally lifeless. Yawn.

His huge descent started in 08, but even listening to some of that 08/09 stuff he sounds miles better than he does now
