I'm on 3/20/05 now, and the start was a bit flat, but everything from BOWA, then Bartender on has been great. American Baby debut, a hot Warehouse, etc.

If for some reason they felt compelled to release something from '05, I wouldn't mind one of those Australian shows.

Yeah, it's actually cool that they closed the first show they played in Australia with Tripping Billies, too.....didn't the writing, or meaning or something have something to do with the country?

Also picked up a little Loving Wings 'tease' pre DDTW.

This Palais Theater Night 2 show is pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary as far as performances, but the setlist is really great for a 'classic' show:

I really enjoyed 10/3 the most, but a case could really be made for 10/2, as well. 10/1 was stellar, but really only Too Much stood out overall.

Yeah, from what I remember, the only worthwhile things from the 05 summer tour were Time of the Season and #34....

Well they'd be a little different, but it's pretty ridiculous to say they wouldn't exist.

No it isn't because many of the songs were written without Roi in mind. He only really contributed on 4 or 5 songs from Big Whiskey. You & Me, Why I Am, Time Bomb, Seven and Lying in the Hands of God. Sorry, Write a Song as well.

Maybe we'd have Drunken Soldier in some form.

But who knows? About Away from the World, I mean. So, maybe you're partially correct.

I think the compositions would be different if Roi had been involved.

It's impossible to know how different BW would have been, but I do think it's extreme hyperbole to say it "wouldn't exist." We just don't know enough about the creative process to be able to say "well, this part would clearly be different if Roi had input" or "obviously these lyrics would have never been used."

I mean sure, Why I Am wouldn't have any Groogrux King references, the album would have had a different title and cover, and Baby Blue might not exist, but that's as far as I'm willing to go for certain.

And yes, I really don't think AFTW would have been much different at all. As you say, Drunken Soldier likely wouldn't be so overtly about living and dying.

Maybe they would have kept that good part of Time Bomb.

I doubt BW would have been all that different, at least musically. I know they hadn't done much recording for BW by the time Roi died, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading the arrangements were pretty far along. (edit: besides Squirm).

I doubt there would have been any AFTW; not to say there wouldn't have been another album, but it would have been much different.

yeah i mean it's one of those things where if roi had lived who knows what kind of chain of events that would have caused to alter the course of history and maybe dave would never have written the bulk of those AFTW and he would have written completely different songs.

that's why i hate "what if" discussions.

I mean, yeah, I don't see how it's possible that AFTW wouldn't be a lot different, cause who knows where the band would be at if he'd lived, etc.
