If ever an opinion could be factually wrong, this is it.

I would rather have a violin over keyboards. But I'd prefer keyboards over an out of tune violin.

It’s not? I thought that was a pretty solid list. Set lists aside.

Edit: ok I’ll also add in a solid studio.

Maybe the two above referenced items were what you were referring to.

If not, I’d love to hear your take.

Boyd on stage is like a familiar nightmare - you're suddenly in front of a crowd and have to play an instrument you've never tried before. Inevitable trainwreck and embarrassment ensues.

Yeah, I don't want Boyd back if he's like this, and I'm sure the band feels the same way. Why they haven't replaced him with a competent violinist is a mystery.

Nobody wants Boyd back, but adding a competent violinist is something I think everybody would be happy with the band doing.

Sadly it doesn't look like something that is going to happen. Hopefully this is not something dumb like Ross being the band leader, or whatever he called himself, making some kind of executive decision that DMB is better without a violin or Buddy can cover the parts well enough that they think nobody will notice at difference.

We can only speculate here, my guess is that they wanted to change their sound and turn more jazzy/funk.

My guess is they’re leaving the door open for him to return if he can get to that place. I’m sure they had discussions about replacing him but Buddy was kind of suggested by Rashawn and once they played together it clicked and they didn’t feel the need to put a violin in

Boyd will never be back with the band. Just from watching him online he seems like a lost soul.

Remember too that the band only brought Boyd on board in the first place to be a special guest on one song. I wouldn't go so far as to say they never wanted him to be in the band, but that certainly wasn't the original vision (though neither was a trumpet or an electric guitar or even a keyboard). I'd be surprised if they're holding out for him to rejoin.

well they did have a keyboard player in the original incarnation of the band, but his playing style was a bit ... different? i don't think they brought in either butch or buddy to recapture that sound.

Boyd Is No Longer A Member of DMB #skreetoo

I mean, that was very very early on. Pretty much the sound that got them to where they are involved a violin. Almost all of the song we recognize as classic DMB clearly integrates a violin heavily. for all intents and purposes, he is an original member.

I think it is somewhat atypical for the guys to have not gone the easier route and replaced the violin when he departed the band. Itís one of the riskiest things they have done even if it was done out of apathy or laziness. It definitely got them out of the comfort zone, but also probably put them in a new sense of freedom because Boyd was clearly holding them back musically and possibly even spiritually. He was clearly detached from the band even on stage, and also quite obviously has issues that have yet to be resolved

i don't think getting a new violin player out of thin air is the "easier route", compared to getting a friend of the band who can play another instrument - an instrument which is known to play well with the band's sound, and an instrument which can mimic the violin parts when absolutely "needed" (with the added bonus of always being in tune)

never in the history of the band had there ever been another violin player to guest with the band. rock-violin players aren't exactly a dime a dozen. bringing in a total unknown with no known chemistry with the band or experience on big stages would have been a much riskier move than what they ended up doing.
