Bingo. Kids have their moments, sure, but there was no semblance of discipline or hell, even parenting, whatsoever.

The tour dates reminded me about this drama from last week, as I'm now trying to figure out how to work in a West Palm Beach trip. But here goes...

So my wife's brother is getting married. I don't think his fiance has many friends so they are doing a small destination wedding with just immediate family. At first they picked Florida in November. Extra lucky, as my family was already planning to hit Disney later this year, might as well just schedule it around the wedding right?

She suddenly decides she'd rather have it in Colorado in the mountains. Outside. In November.

Ok whatever, you do you, it's not about me. We can adjust.

Then they call my wife and tell her that our children don't fit their vision and are not welcome to attend.

Ok, that's also fine. Do it however you want, I get it. We'll just skip the wedding, thanks for saving me money and time.

Oh no, that's not cool with them. They want us to attend, just not the kids. And it's "not fair" for us to skip just because our kids aren't invited.

Listen, I'm not putting my young kids on a 4 hour flight, renting a car and driving them 3 hours to your wedding and then putting them in some random day care. Forget it.

I mean, am I crazy, or is she crazy? Also, how do you go from Florida beach wedding to Colorado snow wedding? That's a complete 180. Part of me thinks she didn't like the fact that Florida would have worked out so well for us.

At any rate, we're not going and that's just fine with. My wife is upset, I am not. I'm excited that I get to save some cash.

Oh absolutely, I understand if kids aren't welcome at a local wedding, leave 'em with family or a friend....but for a destination wedding? Get the hell out of here. They'll understand if/when they have kids, but until then? Fuck 'em.

Yeah that's a lot of crazy on their part. But hey, sounds like it works out well for you in the end. Still plan on taking the kids to Disney?

Of course you’re not crazy. You’re a parent. If they don’t want kids at their wedding, that’s a perfectly reasonable thing to ask. But they’re going to have to deal with the fact that unless they make arrangements for the children of the people they’ve invited, they’re forcing them to make a choice. And they’re going to have to deal with the fact that most parents aren’t going to choose them.

My brother got married in October. He and his fiancť requested that young kids not be brought to the rehearsal dinner or the ceremony. Totally reasonable. You can’t adequately plan around those potential interruptions. I get it. But they provided child care for the few of us that had kids in that age group. Problem solved. Their wedding didn’t become a burden for us.

That's what I've been saying to my wife. They won't get it until they have kids.

Yeah, everything is still up in the air, but we'd really like to. My kids will be 8 and 5 this year, seems like the right time. My only hesitation is that they are Star Wars fans. Do we try the new Star Wars park this year when it's new and likely packed?

8 and 5 are perfect ages, for sure. And Disney's always fucking packed, so I wouldn't rule it out based on that.

Yeah, I've only been to disney once, when I was 17 or so.....but I was going to say, it's ALWAYS going to be packed, so that's not something to plan around.

I can't wait to take the girls when they're old enough to appreciate it.

I have two kids (ages 3 & 6) and bailed on a destination wedding in Montana where kids were welcome. People don’t realize how hard it is to travel with kids.

I find destination weddings extremely annoying but it's your day so do what you want. I think you waive all of your rights to be upset at people who don't go though. The not allowing you to bring your kids thing is absolutely asinine in that situation.

The situation is actually deteriorating quickly. The bride to be has now purposely insulted every member of her fiance's immediate family. Not sure what my wife's brother sees in her, but it very well could end up being just her family there.

Very strange, she is insulting one of the nicest most caring families I have ever known.

That's no way to kick off a marriage, but hey, if she doesn't want in-laws, that's her choice? I will say that decision will come back to bite here if/when she has kids and needs a night out.
