Live Trax 35 - June 20, 2009 | Post-Gazette Pavilion, Burgettstown, PA

[Only registered users can see links.]

This June, 2009 show at Post-Gazette Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA finds the band mid-support of its new album Big Whiskey And The Groo Grux King, dedicated to the life and legacy of LeRoi Moore. Although this is the first complete tour without the venerable Moore, the band still finds its groove having been on tour throughout the spring.

The setlist balances both older fan favorites alongside new numbers from Big Whiskey. Every song is delivered well and with a certain element of playfulness. Carter’s drumming is on fire and especially lyrical on Big Whiskey tracks Funny the Way It Is and Why I Am; the crowd is engaged and happily singing along to a nearly 14 minute version of The Stone; Tim Reynolds and Jeff Coffin deliver huge performances while trading licks on Crush; Dave does a great cover of Rye Whiskey, a traditional favorite; and Time Bomb and offer a fiery match made in encore heaven. The band takes masterly command on this now-classic show at one of their most visited venues.

Please note: CD pre-orders will ship on or around October 13. Digital pre-orders will be available to download on October 16.

Great pick if it had to be an 09 show.

First reaction to it being an '09 was Meh but the set looks pretty good and I still liked how 3.0 was playing that year. Looks like a solid choice.

The fact that every LT announcement invokes Roi has gotten old though. And "a match made in encore heaven" is atrocious.

Saw 14 shows that year and had a fuckin blast, but have almost never had a desire to listen to the shows again after the spring. Definitely glad for you guys who wanted newer stuff, looks like a solid pick

Yeah me too, especially since the next one will probably be '15. Glad they're continuing to mix it up though

Pretty subpar choice, but this was before Jeff took a back seated role, so it'll be nice hearing him tear shit up.

We'll probably have to wait until next year for anything like that. They have given us two stacked classics this year, time for something for the recent fans before we all ignore whatever '15 pile they shit out for the holiday season.

This is a great show, and great pick if they're going to go with '09. One of the stand out 3.0 shows. That being said, if you're not a fan of this lineup, then this release isn't for you at all.

I'll be curious how this is mixed. The AUD recordings from this stretch sound very heavy.

Don't much care about the show, but I like the cover quite a bit.

I would think with Pig, Typical, Stone, the Dreaming Tree, Two Step and Halloween, that some of it might be good. Plus this is not some unknown show. It was a really well-liked show back then.

Had nothing to do with this write up, btw.
