The only ones available at employee rate were at the meadowlands and Newark airport. I’m paying $45 a night to stay at the Hilton. I’d prefer to stay in the city but beggars can’t be choosers

Definitely. That’ll work just fine!

That Oysterhead show last night...there are no words. My brain can’t wrap its head around what I heard and saw when you take three of the best among their craft and put them on stage together.

Go. If they swing by you...GO. Don’t think twice about it. It was one of the three best concerts I’ve ever been to.

If we ever relax the suppression levels back to "mitigation" policies, we go right back to 2 million people dead within three months.

This continues until there is a disseminated vaccine, currently 18 months from now.

the 2 other times I've been there.

The first I stayed at a hostel at 101st and Broadway. It was $50 a night. I had a roommate from Seoul that I met at midnight the first night I was there. I had a locker, a coat rack, and a bunk bed. It was really awesome. Not comfortable at all but it was super clean and right by a subway station.

2nd I stayed at the Hampton Inn on Pearl St by the brooklyn bridge and seaport. $35 a night with my discount. Also great except the lobby smelled like bleach.

But fuck, I'm in NYC! Who the hell spends any amount of time in their hotel room?!

Foo Fighters just today announced a special 25th anniversary tour where they are hitting the cities they toured in '95. Cleveland is among them, which is cool, but I literally just heard about it and now there are only uppers left. Wish they would have given more warning.

David Roback of Mazzy Star has died. I didn’t get into them until long last their peak, but they were really great in their time.

LIVE are one of my favorite bands. Throwing Copper is top 20 best albums of the 90s for me (or maybe just 1994, as a shit-ton of classics came out of the 90s!!) anyways I’ve been jamming to their woodstock 99 set the past 2 nights. Still have the mp3s from Napster such a killer set. Rock on

Just in case there was ever any question, David Byrne is still the fucking greatest.

One of my favourite musicians recently wrote a response to those who were criticizing his newest album for not being quite what they expected it to be. Matthew Good says, in part:

Quote:
What artists do is not pedestrian. Were that the case, everyone would be an artist. There is good and bad art, art is subjective. There are artists whose genius is not realized in their lifetimes, there are artists whose genius alters the discourse of entire generations during their lifetimes. There are catchy tunes that are massive hits that are laughed at a decade later. There are albums that sell next to nothing that spread like spider webs to influence thousands in the deepest recesses of their soul.

The most important aspect of art is, in truth, not how it initially impacts us, but how it challenges us intellectually and spiritually to succumb to something we are not so easily accustomed to. Satiating the masses at any given point given popular methodologies is not difficult. Challenging individuals to discover something buried within them that transverses the barrier between instant gratification and the longevity of a love affair is not the goal of an artist, but the dream of every artist. Because to accomplish the latter is to leave a legacy.
