Oh wow. I was just saying yesterday in the album thread that I don’t like him. But you can’t argue with his talent or his influence.

Jeff Austin, mandolin player best known for his role in Yonder Mountain String band has passed away. Very sad. Leaves behind 3 kids. He had been really struggling lately with drugs/alcohol from what I understand and although no details have emerged yet, his death was presumably substance abuse or self harm related. I always hate seeing shit like this. His stuff with YMSB was great and I'd highly recommend his album with Brendan Bayliss of Umphrey's McGee under the moniker of 30db called "One Man Show". RIP.

EDIT: To make matters even more heartbreaking I just read his last ever onstage performance was a 30db show on Father's Day last week and the final song played they had their kids onstage singing with them.

Woah, that’s wild. I mixed 2 Jeff Austin shows a few years ago when Danny Barnes was out with him. Neat guy. Sad to hear the news :/

RIP Art Nevill. Not exactly a household name, to be sure, but a cornerstone of the New Orleans music scene, and one of the funkiest men to ever walk the earth. The Meters were absolutely incredible.

The Woodstock 50 festival will relocate from upstate New York to Columbia, Maryland in a last-ditch effort to save the beleaguered event, Bloomberg reported. Organizers confirmed to New York Times that the festival will now take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is about an hour’s drive from Washington D.C. — and about four-and-a-half hours from the original Woodstock site in Bethel, New York — on August 16th through 18th.

In documents obtained by Bloomberg, Calvin Ball, an executive with Howard County, Maryland, wrote to Greg Peck, one of the Woodstock organizers: “When we heard that there was an opportunity to save this festival and bring a piece of American history to our community this summer, we jumped at the chance. Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia is a jewel of Howard County and one of the top music venues in the nation. It felt like such a natural fit to host a historic festival on our storied stage.”

Sure, why not? Any bets on whether they pull this off in three weeks? Also, is there room there for more than the 20,000 seats at the actual stage?
