was out of commission with the flu last week, so finally got around to that Elton John this week. Second half of disc 1 is really really awesome, especially that Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting. Grey Seal is the standout from disc 2, but disc 2 is also solid.

I'll hopefully get to that Fela Kuti this week!

Sorry for the delay in getting this up.

This week's pick is Forget and Not Slow Down by Relient K.

Relient K is known for being more of a punk band, but this particular album is very different from their usual output. It doesn't have any of the goofy tracks that they usually include, and it is more of a rock album than a punk album. It was also influenced by a breakup that the lead singer had recently gone through. It is by far my favorite album of theirs.

This one isn’t on Apple Music for some reason and I wasn’t able to find it anywhere without buying it, unfortunately. I’ll continue to look for it and try to listen.

So, I can’t help but notice that the last two picks generated literally zero discussion. Do we need to slow down?

Celluloid is up this week, if we’re going to keep this frequency.

I did not even occur to me to look and see if that was available. That is really surprising to me that it wasn't on apple music.

I'll admit, I'm slowly losing the excitement I had for this thread, maybe slowing down the tempo is a good idea if others are in the same boat.

We're coming up on a year though, that's pretty cool!

Yeah, I was pretty surprised that I couldn’t find it in there.

I’m fine slowing down if that’s what everyone wants to do.

I'd almost rather use this thread to identify 1 new album that comes out a week on Fridays and everyone listens to something new as opposed to suggesting older ones. I missed out on a LOT of new stuff the last few years from just not taking the time to listen to anything

My job has gotten incredibly demanding since 1/1, so it's tough for me to even plow through one album a week, despite doing over 1000 last year.

I'll continue to try, but no promises at the moment, it's been nuts.

Well, let’s see if there’s any other feedback from our other regulars, but it sounds like scaling back or rethinking the idea behind the thread are both worth discussing.

Just listened to the Fela Kuti record. Really enjoyed it....like you said, it's amazing how upbeat it is considering the circumstances. Such great tunes/playing. Nice pick!

My Vinyl collection finally surpassed the 125 mark. Only took 3 years.

It was my turn when we paused, and I found this band and album via Shazam in the bar this week. The song that was on at the time "Flashlight" bears more than a minor resemblance to Virginia in the Rain, if you like that one. Otherwise the album sounds like a more modern take on late 60's - early 70's rock. I wanted to post this in here and hopefully if you're looking for something new (to you - or maybe it was just new to me), give it a run. Fantastic start-to-finish.

The break was good. I needed it. Jason said his job was crazy in January, my job was crazy getting Jason's payroll correct in January :-). I'm not even tracking everything I listen to this year. Just needed to take a break from the insanity and feeling of obligation toward something I love.

But I have a lot of stuff in my forever rotation coming from this thread. Even saw Michael Kiwanuka last week in Nashville solely because of it. I need you guys!

Just started this one, but I’m really digging it. It’s very late-60s, psychedelic, like you said. The first track has a kind of CSNY meets The Zombies thing going. Which is pretty fantastic.

Thanks guys. A little nervous ending our break with something I’m unfamiliar with, but I don’t often feel this way about a first listen and it seemed the right time. Glad you liked. Will spend time getting to know it before moving onto the rest of their music.

Sam Beam! That’s who this singer sounds like. I’ve been trying to nail it down since yesterday. He’s practically a vocal doppelgšnger at times.
