I feel like “this latest version of Grey Street is actually really good!” is something that’s said every year about modern versions and I never see it. There’s some 2005 version that people have been praising forever that just sounds like another truncated Grey to me.
Long story short, there are no great Grey Streets after 12/16/02. Period. In my opinion, at least.

Grey Street died when Roi did imo. I can certainly deal with Grey Street from 2003-early 2008. Anything after that is way too loud and fast with the stupid horn battle. The tempo got really bad for a while. In 2018 the tempo slowed way down, and it was better but like many songs, still a shell of its former self.

Obviously, the best Grey Streets were from 2000-2001. Those were magical.

DDTW is the "The PA gets blown TF out" point on every single one of my tapes from last year.

That made me realize this board is almost 16 years old.

say whatever you want... but that song nothing short of amazing

Lot of my friends who heard this riff (verse) for the first time were like "damn!"

For me its the song which really made DMB to 2.0. The riff chords are totally Dave signature stuff but the dynamic etc is something else.

Those chords you see all over Dave songs. (Billies, Too Much, Graves..)

Yes, and they're all upbeat. Makes you wonder just how much time Dave has spent over the years with those chords looking for the next big one.

He kind of plays with similar ones in Spaceman and Lover Lay Down too.

I mean the Spoon riff is very similar to Granny, just lower, no?

In that there is a whole step hammer? That’s a stretch. We’re talking about “dave chords” akin to Billies. Those tunes are nowhere near each other, in terms of chords or structure. The Granny chords I am referring to are the Bm-F#-over-a-D to A.

It’s not so much what the actual chords or progression are. ‘Dave’ chords are playing on the root on the low E and the third on the G string. Letting the D string ring open throughout. So so many from that, but spoon doesn’t
