Charlottesville

Heading there for the first time in the spring. Would like to hit up some DMB related "must-sees" while in town, while also interested in some recommended places to stay and eat. I searched and didn't find much about this. Thanks

Miller’s is the obvious place to start, and the pink warehouse is a short walk from there. Unfortunately a lot of the venues they used to play like Trax were knocked down. Dave’s winery, Blenheim, is a short drive from downtown. From what I remember, there’s not a lot there acknowledging ties to Dave, but I was there almost 10 years ago. You could spend a day in Shenandoah National Park if you’re up for some hiking. We stayed at a bed and breakfast outside of town because we did head to the park.

It's a college town so hotel prices fluctuate depending on what's going on at UVA. If you don't mind spending a little more, staying at a hotel on Main Street near The Corner or Downtown Mall is convenient because you can walk to a lot of places. I've stayed at The Graduate a few times and it's really nice. Check their special rates. Another good option is the Omni on the Downtown Mall. That puts you walking distance to restaurants and bars including Millers.

Littlejohn's has great hot subs (Chris Long, Sampson), personal fave is the Nuclear. The Nook, Farm Bell, and Fig are all good breakfast spots. Grit and Shenandoah Joe/Corner Joe for coffee. There's a bunch of breweries. It's hard to recommend restaurants without knowing what you like. I'd suggest checking out reviews for restaurants/breweries along W Main Street and the Downtown Mall to find places that match the type of food/vibe you're looking for. If you want chain restaurants, head to 29/Emmet Street.

You’re also only about 40 minutes from Blenheim when you’re there, so def check that out if you want to make a little day trip.

Wine:
Blenheim
Thatch
Jefferson
Gabriele Rausse
(all of the above are fairly close to one another... and even though it's close, skip Trump even if you like him unless you REALLY like mediocre sparkling wine)
Veritas
King Family
Pippin Hill (*beautiful* location, but the wine is expensive and not incredibly good)

Beer:
Three Notch'd
South Street
Reason
Starr Hill (in Crozet, which has a bunch of wineries, but not most of the ones I listed above)
Champion
Blue Mountain (a bit out of the way, but good)
Devil's Backbone (also out of the way, but also good)
Draft Taproom (not a brewery, but a ton of good beer to pick from... it's a pay-by-the-ounce, serve-yourself style place)

Food:
Miller's
Littlejohn's
Michie Tavern
Blue Mountain Brewery
Jack Brown's and/or Citizen Burger Bar
Lampo

Music:
Miller's, depending on the night
Jefferson Theatre
Paramount Theatre
Sprint Pavilion
John Paul Jones Arena

The best place to park near the downtown mall is the parking garage on the corner of 2nd & Water Streets. You can see the pink warehouse as you leave the garage (all you need to do is see it—it's literally just apartments, so there's no point in walking over to it), and Miller's is a 5-minute walk. The downtown mall is full of neat little shops/restaurants, almost all of which are mom-and-pop. The guy who makes Dave's guitars and Chickapig has a place on the mall, but I think it's just his workshop (i.e., you can't actually go in and look around/shop). I'm not sure what happened with the Charlottesville music exhibit that was up earlier in the year... I know it's gone, and I know they were going to put it somewhere else on a more permanent basis, but I don't know if that's happened yet. If it's around, though, it's definitely worth checking out.

I can't really help with lodging, as the only place I've ever stayed there is the Econolodge across from JPJ (R.I.P.).

Also, try and catch a John D’Earth show there if you can. I saw him play at Miller’s in 2016 and it was an awesome time.
