I mean, it still has to hurt. Its not a song thats overplayed by any means. I've seen it twice in 51 shows, once at my first show in 06 and again in 10. I was at SPAC N2 last year and was crushed seeing it on the Jones Beach setlist for the next night. When they played it the next night after the rainout, i was shocked when they cut it in half. If they had done that at SPAC i would have been so disappointed. From the highest high to a total letdown.

As an aside, i have to believe they practiced it in the rehearsal room at SPAC. They posted all these photos of them practicing and then the next night they have it on the setlist? I have to believe, Dave pussed out and cut it from a SPAC setlist because he was worried about playing it in full. He probably came up with the idea to cut the outro/key change when it wasnt going well at rehearsal.

I've seen it enough times (11 apparently) that I wouldn't be crushed to get Half-Stop. I'd enjoy it more than many songs. Obviously would prefer the full thing though.
My favorite times catching it were 7/31/10 (totally out of nowhere) and 5/7/16 (out of nowhere and in the middle of a crazy good encore). No matter when or what form I catch it next, it's unlikely to match the awesomeness of those ones - let alone other special performances of it I've seen (Wrigley closer, Shoreline '10 opener, Gorge '03 encore, etc)

seeing it 11 times is extremely lucky id say. Looking at your stats twice in 03, 3 in 06, 4 in 10 and 2 in 16 just seems like you hit the right shows those years for it. If i had been to those shows, id probably feel the same way as you.

Yeah true. I've been lucky in most regards with my showgoing. The only songs I've missed by 1 or 2 shows are Beach Ball and Busted Stuff (and Let You Down in 2015), which was just bad luck considering I went to shows surrounding them. Still wanna get those.

Ive only seen it twice as well, both in 2016. Im extremely happy I got to see it in full before they cut it in half. Id be really pissed if my very first Last Stop was the half-stop, no doubt. Of course Id rather have it over a shitload of songs, but man its a bummer. Jimi is the song that needs to get fucking half-stopped these days not last Stop.

The only thing about Jimi that is stale for me in recent years is the horn jam section. They've done great at mixing up the rest with the awesome Tim/Buddy jams, different outros, cutting the scatting crap, etc. It's that long horn trade-off section that's been the same old thing for 15 years. All that being said, it's still fun at shows. But I'd love something different there.

I mean to be clear, im in denial about it being cut in half. I fully expect the next year they play it, it will be done in full.

I do get a kick out of it when Dave says something before Jimi like "because i like it" or "i know yall dont want to hear this" or whatever thing he says, then he has the crowd sing the two verses, two choruses and whatever else he wants them to sing. I feel like one year at hartford, he hardly sung anything and was just cracking up with Carter the whole time cause we sang it for him.

Do we have many precedents of the band cutting down a song, then re-elongating it? The one that immediately comes to mind is Recently, which was garbage in 2001. I think there's others too.

It always hurts when they cut key parts of songs to make them shorter. OSW is the most glaring example. Grey Street is obviously another. But there's recent ones too, like FTWII where they added that fantastic intro in 2011-2012, then chopped it back off.

I feel like people would enjoy Jimi so much more if it were early in the set. The worst time to get Jimi is when you get a set of OSW, Satellite, SMLAM, Y&M, Crush, DDTW, Crash, Everyday, Seven, etc and then get Jimi in the second half when you're really hoping for a fresher jam song, like Typical, Two Step, Seek Up, Recently, etc to save things.

I would honestly love if the band cut Jimi down to a 5-6 minute song for the next few years..no jam, no covers just the song. It would be a welcome fresh change for me.

They also truncated Two Step a few times....'96, '01 being the notable years.

And 2019.
Hoping that one is not permanent.
