According to S&P, the global economy is already in recession and will be for at least the entire second quarter.

This is why so many people will die:

A Kentucky [Only registered users can see links.] checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice. So to prevent him from spreading the virus, officials are [Only registered users can see links.] .

The 53-year-old man in Nelson County refused to quarantine himself after testing positive for Covid-19, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said.

Nelson County officials [Only registered users can see links.] on the man, one of the first 20 confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state.

"It's a step I hoped that I'd never have to take," Beshear [Only registered users can see links.] . "But I can't allow one person who we know has this virus to refuse to protect their neighbors."
Beshear didn't share then how the government had forced the unnamed man to stay in his home.

But this week, Nelson County Sheriff Ramon Pineiroa told [Only registered users can see links.] that deputies will park outside of the man's home for 24 hours a day for two weeks. The patient is cooperating now, Pineiroa said.

It blows my mind that people have access to the numbers coming out of Italy, Iran, etc. and they still refuse to take this seriously. I know it’s hopelessly out of fashion to think in terms of a “society” and not just what you personally want, but YOU WILL FUCKING KILL PEOPLE YOU ABSOLUTE PIECE OF SHIT ASSHOLE!

Just how fucked are we? Let's check in with David Chang for a look at the restaurant industry:

[Only registered users can see links.]
@DavidChang: There is a White House call at 930 with the restaurant is industry. I don’t think there is one independent operator on the call. Simply unacceptable - please tell me there is at least one industry leader on this call?

@DavidGura: Participants, per the White House: Domino's Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Subway, Restaurant Brand International, International Franchise Association, Bloomin' Brands, McDonald's USA, YUM! Brands, Raising Cane's, Darden Restaurants, Papa Johns, Wendy's, and the National Retail Federation

@DavidChang I always wanted to know what the orchestra sounded like on the Titanic

@DavidChang We are so fucked

Well Louisville is pretty screwed economically for a bit. April and May are by far the biggest months here for tourism.

However!

The kick off to the Derby is Thunder Over Louisville. That is followed by a weeks long festival that leads up to Derby Day.

Thunder is now August 15th. So that means that starting August 15th this city will have that festival, the state fair, Derby Weekend, and then 3 straight music festivals that run through September.

It's gonna be wild.

Hotels got totally fucked by Derby being moved. Once again glad I'm pretty much out of that business.

Today, the Fed announced they will purchase $10 billion worth of bonds from cities and states to support them in being able to treat and prepare for the pandemic.

Hahahahahaha, just kidding! They're buying $10 billion dollars of corporate bonds to prop up businesses. Who cares about living breathing people, there's corporations to save!

This is from the other thread a few days ago but had me thinking. We basically will know though, no? We know what steps we are taking, and we know countries that aren’t taking this seriously. So we can see what happens in those countries and basically extrapolate what would have happened here. I have a feeling our borders will be closed for a long time. One of my best friends works for the state dept in another country and is racing his family home now. Where he is, he says they are taking no precautions at all.

"Planning" for the common people.

"Already" dumped tens of trillions dollars into banks and corporations. Tens of Trillions.

Roanoke is going to get hammered on the tourism/outdoors activity side, too, with the cancellation of the Blue Ridge Marathon and a ton of other local events. Our small restaurant owners are hurting.

Those are the companies that have the resources and wherewithal to provide large quantities of food to lots of people very quickly, that’s why they are priority.

Was just going to post this. A summary:

Without the sort of shutdown that we're seeing now, 80% of people would be infected and 4 million people would die within three months.

With "mitigation" strategies in place (all symptomatic cases in the US in isolation. Families of those cases quarantined. All Americans over 70 social distancing) 2 million people die in the next 3 months.

With full suppression strategies in place (isolate symptomatic cases, quarantine their family members, social distancing for the whole population, all public gatherings/most workplaces shut down, schools and universities close), basically what we're doing now, the death rate peaks in three weeks in the thousands.

BUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUTBUT

If we ever relax the suppression levels back to "mitigation" policies, we go right back to 2 million people dead within three months.

This continues until there is a disseminated vaccine, currently 18 months from now.
---------------

This is a model.

All eyes now should be on China who did about two months of suppression and are now trying to relax that and return to mitigation. If there's another Chinese outbreak, we need to be in lockdown for 18 months.
