I was in college, right before crash came out...I hadn't been a fan of wwys (which I'd heard on the radio), but my college roomate played this cd non-stop, and bowa hooked me. This is still my favorite DMB studio album. (favorite and best to me are two different things...this one is just near and dear to my heart, even though btcs is probably their best effort)

I think John Mayer called this album a melodic tour de force at some point in time...he has a good point

What a well written article. Relix has been killing it for dmbc. Also Recently for BFRSD? Halfstock.

Crash was my first album; I found a scratched up copy of it in the parking lot of my father's business. Most of it skipped but I had just gotten my first CD player and would've put ANYTHING in there... except my dick...after that one time...

But it turned out to be a huge turning point in my life; I could hear just enough of SMTS, TM, and the LIOG jam to know I loved these guys. My dad got me new copies of Crash and UTTAD for Christmas that year (1999 I think). I probably would've found DMB at some other point in life, but I like to maintain that finding that beat-up CD changed my life.

Now, I'm a touring musician, professional audio engineer, and an avid lover of all kinds of music. I remember listening to WWYS on the record and remembering it from the radio. Spun that around about 16 million times and decided to play drums. I did that for 6 years, discovered Carter knew a few chords on guitar, and decided to diversify my instrumental investments. Now I get to stand on stage with some of my best friends (and two brothers), front a band, and play guitar/rig sound for a living.

I didn't mean this to sound boastful, I'm seriously counting my blessings out loud to you folks. Thanks to Crash and UTTAD, I get to pursue my dreams, don't dread going to work, and generally enjoy my lifestyle and a multitude of different music I may not have found.

Enough ball washing; I'm sure their farts still stink. Gettin too sappy in here..

Wow, it's been 20 years since my older siblings bored me to tears with this album.

I was lucky to be able to start listening to DMB back in 93 so I remembered being so excited that they were releasing an album. The band at that point couldn't do any wrong in my eyes and the album definitely didn't disappoint.

I thought I was the coolest person around being able to tell my friends that I had started following this band before they ever made it big. Especially living in Iowa and being far away and only 14 I really thought I was cool.

This album is perfection to me.

Also, that article might be one of the most informed and well written pieces I've read in a long time.

Man reading that takes me back so much and makes me realize how old I am.

I dont really give a damn other than the fact that they now need to release on vinyl.

Yeah, I'd really like them to re-issue UTTAD for xmas, but with Recently EP coming out, looks like that won't happen until at least Spring 2015 or later.

Sister played college softball and went on a trip for softball in Virginia in 1993. They had a night off before they flew home the next day so they decided to go out that night. Some people around Charlottesville recommended to go see DMB. She went that night and someone was handing out tapes of a previous show to people and since they were college students from out of town in made sense to hand it to them. She thought DMB was ok but for some reason thought I would like the tape she got. When she got back home she gave me the tape and I was hooked.

I then got on the Internet in it's infancy and took hours looking them up. Then I got on mailing lists to follow them. I will admit that I was scared to send emails at the time because I was 13 and the Internet was so dman new.
