Yeah but I think people took that and ran with it. He didn’t mention recording or going to the studio or anything like that. They were probably just hanging out and jamming. And either way, clearly Jeff wasn’t told about it at all so I doubt there’s anything to be excited about.

Yeah - somewhat interesting. He definitely comes off as treating it like a job... probably an easy one for him. I’m sure he means what he says about enjoying the people. Doesn’t seem engaged at all in the music aspect, at all, though. No excitement for it whatsoever.

Yeah i kind of agree. He does seem to enjoy it and the people, but he definitely feels like a "reporting for duty" type of band member. Which is a logical explanation as to why he wouldn't be aware of Dave & Carter working on anything (true or not).

Agreed. He’s totally just being professional about it. He just shows up and does what he’s told. Which is pretty much what we all thought, now it’s confirmed. It was a lot of work for him in ‘08/09 to learn everything, but now it’s Definitley a job he can coast with.

Compared to the flecktones, the DMB stuff is cakewalk in terms of difficulty. Personally I’m cool with his role in the band, I just wish they’d let him solo more and give him the spotlight more often. I think he’d do it if they told him to. But he made it clear that the band has a “horn section” now and he’s not going to stray and play a lot of lines by himself all over the songs like Roi used to do. It’s a shame, but it seems that’s how it is and they’ve accepted that.

Yeah, Jeff is like a JK student reporting to his teacher every morning holding his lunch box, water bottle and mask.

I think it’s possible Dave, Carter and maybe even Stefan are working on some early stage ideas. Once they’ve flushed out the structure of a song they can bring in Tim, Jeff, Rashawn and Buddy to fill it out. So i don’t think it means much that Jeff doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Wait, I've seen this one before.

They'll hire a producer who gives them charts and makes them feel like they're actual musicians, right?

Any song ideas that come up should be processed through the musical director for general cataloguing and notation purposes before being sent downstream for Jeff, Buddy, and Tim fills.

Plus it isnít crazy for Dave and Carter to get together when they are the onLy ones in Cville.
It isnít like the whole band is there and they are getting g together ďbehind their backĒ

Pretty sure the Carter and Dave stuff is true. Henry sent me a picture of a new snare he had received for them to try a few weeks ago. The entire kit was set up. Doubt with the pandemic going on they'd be randomly setting up the gear wherever the picture was from.

So Dave played the OSW intro perfectly a few weeks ago. Itís incredibly frustrating the full band hasnít attempted this in over 10 years. I always thought they never attempt this anymore because Dave is to lazy to try and play it. Clearly that isnít the case, and I venture to say they donít play it anymore because of LeRoi. When they attempted it back in 2010 they probably didnít feel it sounded right without him. Thatís why I feel like the full band abandoned it. Obviously it will never be the same without Roi, but I do think Jeff could do intro justice. Hope it comes back full band one day. Particularly to open a show.

Is it me or is every Coffin guest appearance solo better than anything he's done since he's been a fulltime member?

Same with Tim. Every Warren, Santana, Trey spot has a better solo than anything Tim has done since '08.

What gives?

I think thats a wild overstatement. I think his work on LITHOG is fantastic. Same with songs like lover lay down or Say Goodbye. Hes not Roi, but hes also doing some great stuff ... wait for it... when he gets to play.

Also, hes playing parts Roi used to play. When Roi was there, he handled his parts. So hes not able to just do whatever he used to do, he needs to "serve the music" as both he and Dave put it.

Let me make it more apples to apples since this popped into my head listening to ‘98 Worcester on Sirius. Every Coffin 41 solo as a guest has killed anything he’s done on 41 since he’s been fultime.
