Tinnitus sucks. I have slight hearing loss in my left ear from childhood ear infections. Tinnitus is in my right.

I also used to stick things in my ears, probably to drown out the world. I still occasionally use ear plugs and clean my ears with Q-Tips.

Thankfully, I still essentially hear with balance - left/center/right - stereo, whatever.

My brief investigation turns up lack of certain vitamins, anxiety, side effects to medications, loud noises causing hearing damage, etc. No cure. I can ignore it. Mostly. It used to be a whooshing/heartbeat sound. Things have progressed. Why shouldn't they? Life has gone downhill.

I get that whooshing sound sometimes because of earwax.

Yeah, there's another reason for auditory madness.

What is it about chili that makes it better the day after you make it?

It's bizarre, chili always reheats really well....and I'm not a reheated food guy.

I think heavily spiced thick stews and sauces just benefit from the extra time to let the flavors mingle. Nothing better than good chili the next day.

I make a lot of stew and it seems to have more flavor the next day.

Soup has become my thing. Whoever invented the idea of soup deserves all the prizes.

My stepmother makes a variant of this that is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my life. She basically makes this but adds small piece of Portuguese chourico in it and it’s one of the most delicious things on planet earth.

[Only registered users can see links.]

This is also amazing. Yes, it Rachel Ray’s recipe, but it’s very, very close to the traditional dish I grew up eating. Portuguese people were crushing kale long before hipsters got ahold of it.

This continues until there is a disseminated vaccine, currently 18 months from now.
