He really shines during these controlled settings, and the most recent 'Do You Remember' is proof positive of his mastery over singing high notes without transitioning to falsetto. He's also clearly pretty darn good at being Dave on the guitar - he's still able to be precise with his picking, and is also quite adept at fingerstyle playing when he wants to do it. I feel like these solo shows are really good for him to have to play the guitar again, and I think it's really helpful for him to not be playing without the crutch of the DMB wall of sound, or even Tim for that matter.

His guitar playing was what got me hooked back in the 90s and unfortunately that's been less-featured in the current sound. He does still have the ability to play well, though he's become so reliant on palm muting that his sound has been self-stifled when it comes to the band setting. That may be a result of him being overshadowed by so many other instruments.

I really enjoyed the unscripted feel of these performances - especially the recent ones from the request show. He's fumbled with lyrics, transposed verses and that's ok. It feels a bit like the non-teleprompted Dave of old.

That's a long way of me saying, Dave still has it...and I think this has been good for him to re-learn how to be precise and execute these fun and unique songs in the way that many of them were originally written - by himself.
Well-described. He's shone tremendously these past few months. Some very fine performances. And you're absolutely right, it's fantastic to actually hear him playing, regardless of whether or not he's playing the best sounding guitars anymore.

That’s what I was wondering. Is this a cover or a new song?

He said “this song is not that old” beforehand. That’s all we got.
Hope somebody can go back and rip it.

Once I had a dream
stuck somewhere in between
the water and the beach, ooh
both worlds out of reach
so with elegance and style
caught a wave, took me right

Yeah, empty plastic bag
starry night
floats into the black
look at how she dip and dive
but no one could ever know
how many miles she'll go
or how she does with such elegance and style
look at how she dip and dive

Take only what you need
like the water and the seed
so after we are gone
there'll be something good to carry on
all this elegance and style
dancing with the butterfly

You know, math's no miracle
it's all grown mechanical
machines by selves design, oh yeah
to float into the sky
with such elegance and style
the ocean and the butterfly

This seems wrong in a few places based on what I heard.

This was based on one pass-through with a one-year-old screaming in my ear, so that wouldn't surprise me. I'll give it another listen tonight, and if you have any suggestions, I'll take a look.
