I would much prefer Tim to solo on songs that didn't feature just sax prominently. Let Tim take solos in YMDT, Jimi, Two Step, Watchtower, covers, sugar Will etc.

Not on crush, warehouse, proudest and 41. At least not all the time. I wish the band would mix up solo spots like they do the setlists. It would be nice to go to 3 shows and hear different solos of 41 or other songs--Jeff one night, tim the next etc.

Call me crazy but is it possible that this crystal garden thing has gotten Boyd's focus back? I don't know if this has been discussed but by most accounts/reviews, he's back closer to his old self than last year.

In the 3 shows I've seen this year, I've only seen him skree once and it wasn't even that bad. I'm definitely impressed with him this year. 2014 was his worst year since 2003 and 2015 was only a little better. This year he's so much better.

That surgery he had a couple years ago probably helped, too.

I'll never understand the rational behind chopping Hello Again in half for Stand Up. Yeah, the full version is still the worst one out there, but it's made even worse cut in two.

Tomorrow is 15 years since 6/11/01 (the famous Two Step in the rain). It was my first show - can't believe it's been that long ago.

I don't understand why this band wants to play the same exact sets night after night. You would think that would get boring for the band. It's boring for the crowd. It must be extremely boring for the band.

While I agree they need more variety, most people only go to one show now so they have to make sure to play some of the crowd pleasers at every stop.

With its return this summer, I'm reminded of how much I loved Sugar Will. It was my favorite of the '04 songs. I saw three shows that summer and that tour remains my personal favorite. For anyone interested, I've compiled all (I think) versions in [Only registered users can see links.] . I'm partial to 2004. 8/16/04 may be the most unique, "read in the paper about some lady who passed away. sleeping on a couch for maybe 10 years doing nothing but getting bigger...".

What is with Carter reverting to the one crash China crossover fill for literally everything now? The guy has so much talent and has gone to that same thing for nearly every fill he does. Using it in Billies now too? Come on.

Dig this post and bookmarked that folder for the car tomorrow thanks.

Adam, I agree, I miss Carter's subtle greatness.

It just occasionally sucks watching our favorite drummer revert to this one fill. Other drummers here probably agree. Not never hating on the guy as I love his playing more than anyone's, but I just know he's capable of so much more.

I guess you're right though. After this many years, he can.

Those slower, jazzier, ad-libbed 04 SWs were quality. You know, one of the best things about Dave changing up lyrics aren't even the words, but the varied delivery. You can see this in '00 Ravens, '04 CEs as well (and others), some versions have unique vocals that really showcase his vocal skills.

Last year he sang things differently on so many songs, so many times, and all I remember is people complaining about it, and that he should sing the song as it's meant to be. Anyway, Sugar Will had some different vocal moments the last couple versions I heard, and that Raven from a few shows ago did too. Worth checking out, if you haven't.

But in terms of roadtesting songs, let's be honest, it's a gift and curse. When Dave hasn't finished a song yet, and he figures out the lyrics and melodies live over a tour in front of audiences, naturally we're going to get attached to our own favourite versions, but Dave's not going to A) remember what he just sang, and B) necessarily like the same performances you do. So when you get attached to roadtested songs, be prepared to not love the finished product, because it won't be the same as what you fell in love with.

It's like if I were making a movie, I wouldn't show 20,000 people 100 different takes of a scene. Because chances are they'll all like different takes, and be bitter about the one I wind up putting in the movie.
