Yeah, this lyric is vague enough.

Everybody wake up
if you're living with your eyes closed
See the man with the bomb in his hand
Everybody wake up

Oh, Baby it's not easy sometimes
We make these walls ever higher and hide behind them
Seems an odd way to try to make things right
Oh i feel like I'm crazy sometimes

And our finest hour arrives
See the pig dressed in his finest vine
and believers stand behind him and smile

Everybody wake up
if you're living with your eyes closed
See the man with the bomb in his hand
Everybody wake up

Remember the words of the misguided fool
Do unto others as you'd have them do
Not an eye for an eye as the golden rule
It Just leaves a room full of blind men

As our finest hour arrives
See the pig dressed in his finest vines
And believers stand behind him and smile
as the day lights up with fire

Everybody wake up
Everybody wake up
Everybody wake up

Everybody wake up
if you're living with your eyes closed
see the man with the bomb in his hands
Everybody wake up.......

if you played someone that song for the first time right now and didn't tell them when it was written i don't think they'd make a GWB connection

But it's there, and I can't un-know that fact when I listen to the song. I don't even like GWB, but the incessant whining about him drove me up a wall back in the mid-2000s and this song will forever be linked in my mind with that horrid period in entertainment history where every fucking thing had to be about how awful the world was going to be if we didn't do something about him.

But, independent of the GWB stuff, it all sounds like the rantings of an 18 year old hipster back home from his freshman year of college:

"You all need to wake up, man. We're being led by an illegitimate liar in chief, man. The government is killing people for big corporations and oil and shit, man. I feel like the whole world has gone fucking crazy, man. We need to, like, live together and be one with each other and nature, man "

Yeah.

Now this is an "anti-war" song. Released in 2004.

I got your letter today
and I miss you all so much here
I can't wait to see you all
and I'm counting the days, dear
I still believe that there's gold
at the end of the world
And I'll come home to Illinois
on the day after tomorrow

It is so hard and it's cold here
and I'm tired of taking orders
And I miss old Rockford town
up by the Wisconsin border
But I miss you won't believe -
shoveling snow and raking leaves
and my plane will touch down
on the day after tomorrow

I close my eyes every night
and I dream that I can hold you
They fill us full of lies everyone buys
about what it means to be a soldier
I still don't know how I'm supposed to feel
about all the blood that's been spilled
Will God on his throne get me back home
on the day after tomorrow?

You can't deny the other side
Don't want to die any more than we do
What I'm trying to say,
is don't they pray
to the same God that we do?
Tell me, how does God choose?
Whose prayers does he refuse?
Who turns the wheel?
Who throws the dice
on the day after tomorrow?

I'm not fighting for justice
I am not fighting for freedom
I am fighting for my life
and another day in the world here
I just do what I've been told
We're just the gravel on the road
And only the lucky ones come home
on the day after tomorrow

And the summer it too will fade
and with it comes the winter's frost, dear
And I know we too are made
of all the things that we have lost here
I'll be twenty-one today
I've been saving all my pay
And my plane will touch down
on the day after tomorrow
And my plane it will touch down
on the day after tomorrow

The scary part was you climbing the rocks.

When I listen to it, all I can picture is everyone I went to law school with claiming the end of the world coming because of the 2004 election results.
Somehow, EWU has never bothered me. I think I agree with the vagueness argument.

Unfortunately 05 was when I really, really got into this band. TCWOTR was a great way for me to really get into the bands catalog so I think I like more of it then I probably should.

Stolen Away - really dig this on here
Everybody Wake Up

I remember being pissed that they didn't play YMDT that weekend so they could have had the entire stand up album live on there.

Everybody was calling it for E1 N3. Then they pulled out Bayou #3. Apparently the song started to fall apart the previous few shows, so they shelved it until 2006 when they restructured it a bit (and it came back awesome).

Hmm really? I'll have to check out a couple previous ones before this. I remember early in the 05 tour the song was pretty blah. Then they did that one really cool unique long one at Deer Creek and that was about it for good 05 versions. Personally I think 08 was when YMDT was at its peak.

At the shows, I remember liking N2 way more than N1 and not being sure how they'd top it with N3. Then they blew us away

N4 was just a strange anomaly. It was half awesome and half just WTF.

9/12/05 still has by far the least amount of songs played at a show I've been to. Can't believe it was just 14 songs and still over 2 hours of music.

That aspect was really cool. I enjoyed just watching them jam that night. Too bad the song selection overall that night wasn't their best.

Seek Up, #34, Two Step, Pig, YNK, #41, Recently, DIDO, Typical, N4 AB Intro, and Exodus are all great from this. They could've made a really good comp from this and they just screwed it up. I still hope they have good footage of the above performances and put out a better DVD at some point.

I backread and saw I was propping up this Blackbird back in the day but my opinion on that has changed drastically since then - it really isn't that good at all.
