What's the worst year in DMB history?

I'm going with 2007. They were just a flat band at that time. The sets were really bad too.

I would say their worst years are 2005 or 2006. The only thing saving 2005 is the handful of special/great shows (Roseland, Red Rocks, MSG). 2006 has special shows too, but basically everything after Randallís Island was so abysmal, it was depressing. June and September in 06 were night and day.

2007 has some bad shows, but Alpine onward I thought was quite good. The year ended on a good note. The new songs were solid and getting better each time. The band was playing tight. Dreaming Tree became common, YMDT became good, Grace is Gone was cool, Shotgun got a lot smoother, etc. Compare all that to 2006, where by the end, Daveís voice was atrocious, the sets were now full of Dream Girl, Canít Stop, HFTGL, Canít Stop, Smooth Rider, Bayou, etc.

2001 is still the year that I have the most negative immediate feelings toward. It was the first time that the band really let me down, and such a crushing shift from the euphoria most of us were feeling in 2000. That said, the band still sounded relatively good overall in 2001, ED songs excepted. That simply can’t be said for 2005, when the sets were almost universally shit and the band sounded awful playing most of them.

EDIT: 2001 had the additional issue of the open conflict and bad feelings between the band and the fans. That was not fun.

Yeah. But another good thing about 2005 is that the band sounded great playing the old stuff still. Some amazing performances on WOTR for example (Pig, BOWA, YNK come to mind).

I agree with all this.

Though, personally, I think 2014-15 was the worst yet. Two sets bombed, the Ladies were back, no good new songs. Everything stale stale stale.

Among the positives mentioned above about 2007, I remember Stefan's bass intros were really inventive that year.

Fuck.

Though I still enjoyed hearing the 2sets, but wish they'd been more diverse with the opportunity. No acoustic Jimi?!

Man that's tough. 2005 was probably the worst I saw, but with how good 2004 was there was still hope it was a one year thing. 2007 is when I finally said fuck it I'm done with this band. Of course that only lasted until Tim was confirmed but that feeling of "this is a waste of money, and they aren't going to recover from SU" was real for me in 2007

I guess I'd go with 2007 for me personally, but objectively 2005

While maybe not the worst in terms of playing and setlists or stuff like that I'd still say 2001 simply because, to me, the whole LWS debacle followed by ED changed the entire course of the band's history.

2015 for me, the year of Be Yourself. Walked out of a show early in order to beat the traffic, i never did that before.

2006 gets by too easily. It was a terrible year. To have them bust out the rarities early on only to ditch them less than halfway through the tour and turn the whole thing into 2005 part 2, only with Rashawn with them for every show morphing the band into cheesy horn line territory, Dave's voice degrading, and everyone looking completely lifeless and uninterested. We know now a break up was a strong possibility because of that tour. I think it's worse than 2005.

For worst ever though, I agree with Jack, everything bad that happened afterwards can be traced back to 2001.

Same. I was so mad about Be Yourself and the Ladies ruining Rooftop and Long Black Veil that I left during the Granny set closer and missed the Ants/Halloween encore.
