Thanks! My first show and still and a top 3 show for me. That watchtower absolutely blew my mind. I was 16 and my mind couldnít handle what was happening. Such awesomeness

In! That's one of the best Grey Streets ever. I believe I have an alternate recording of that one.

Always enjoyed the ‘01 Gorge run, despite Dave’s voice by N3

Ha I recently found the Sinclair VHS of the next night with the "alternate" tape attached to it. The Gorge was still a very 2001 tour set of shows but was decent for that year.

8/25/01 is officially on the list for this week.

As for formatting it this time - let's have a show ready and picked by Sunday and then discuss it throughout the week. Does that sound good to everyone else?

So I've given 8/25/01 a couple listens this week. Mostly the IEM, which is missing Watchtower but I grabbed the tapers version and have it slotted in.

Dave fumbles around with the Nature intro before the Billies opener and then colorfully suggests they should just hit it right on. Good choice to bust right in - this version is filled with lots of energy and good BT.

Warehouse is a massive highlight for me. Dave's vocal enthusiasm is noticeable as he adds a few flares to some of his lines and has an nice "many people have it worse, so we should celebrate" (or something similar) lyric at the end. Roi absolute kills this version. His solos are masterfully good and the real highlight of this performance.

17 years later, the Pig partial is pretty cool. I would rather hear the song, but for variety of listening's sake, a quick partial is pretty neat to hear. Great OSW and then unfortunately there's a shit run with the Ladies. I can't stand their vocals on BOWA, they remind me how much of a joke FTT is, and I Did It is just a disaster.

Captain [partial] Seek Up Heartbeat PNP Rapunzel. DAMN! Absolutely awesome.

Nice to hear the Recently Ditch segue they were doing that year. I don't seek those out too often and it's an interesting pairing given the contrasting spirit of the two songs.

This Grey Street remains one of my favorite from 2000-2001. It's the capstone performance from this show, IMO. Watchtower had strong solos from Roi and BT - I do not dig the electric guitar effect Butch uses on his solo.

Beautiful little #40 and Waste, with a very brief Exodus tease by Dave - that one was fun to hear Carter and Dave talk about on the IEM. And to cap it off, Dave tells Carter to start ASTB by himself and says something like "wait until you hear what I'm going to do."

Overall, this show was truly all over the place in both good and bad ways. Butch and the LLs were on and off stage all night. You have a top tier performance of Grey Street at the pinnacle of its brilliance, a energy filled classic Billies/Warehouse/OSW opening, some oddities - Pig and Captain [partial] Seek Up, and #40/Waste. The bad spots with the Ladies (FTT, I Did It, BOWA, IIHIA) really do knock the show down a bit.

I'll give it a solid ***3/4. One of the better 2001 shows around.

I'm going to listen to this show again later tonight. My apologies for the delay. This week has been insanely busy and I haven't been around much. Look out for my review late this evening.

Feathered, do you want to choose this week's show today?
