Blue Water Baboon Farm

Has not been played Full band in "full" since 02.25.95. It's time for it to make a full blown comeback. Let's find a way to make it happen. Clearly Dave has not forgotten it exists as he has teased it or played it D+T almost every year at some point. What's been holding them back from a true verison? Get the stick out of whoever's ass it's in, and let's have it happen. I'm confident Boyd could still tear it up if he wants. And if not, Tim or Jeff could take the solo. I'm not asking for it even to be back in rotation, but play it just once at least.

What's the overall best version of this song? I know the August '93 one with Warren is cool, but what about non-guest versions?

Boyd is a beast on 2/4/93.

edit: Seems this is the wrong date. Hmmm.

3/17/93 has always been the one that I measure all versions of Blue Water against.

As far as them bringing the full version back, I'm not sure that Boyd has it in him anymore.

I'd be stoked if even Rashawn takes the solo if it means the song can come back for a tour.

This. Too bad, they should have played it more while he still had it together. If he ever makes a comeback they need to break the full version back out and let him go at it.

.

Those spring '09 versions are full versions imho. Doubtful we'd ever get anything more without a guest. Warren did recall the wetlands lt20 version as one of his favorite guest appearances ever, so maybe...

What?

You think Boyd is choosing to be a shitty violinist? The guy has lost it and it's not coming back.

That's true on '09, though I miss the longer versions of the song. I agree that it'd only be worthwhile with a guest at this point, but those long, haunting versions with Boyd solos were so good.

Roi always did some nice work on this tune, too.

I like how they've at least teased it and segued it into some good stuff. Alpine '12 before BOWA was pretty good. Fonz and Dave lightly played the jam rundown portion. And sometime in '14 they did Blue Water Warehouse.

Roi on that chill outro jam was some of his best stuff in the early days. I agree that 3/17/93 and 8/19/93 with Warren are both excellent. Also there was one where Kristen Ashbury guests on, I think 1/26/93, which is good.

Yeah, this is one that won't age well; I don't see Boyd doing anything good with Blue Water in 2018.

I was just funny enough thinking about Blue Water today, and how it's always been a top 5 song for me. Crazy it's not played. Although, not that crazy I guess... Boyd would embarrass himself up there.

It would be great for many reasons if they could bring it back to a full song like they did, but for many reasons already stated it won't be like what most of us want. Plus, add in the current DMB crowds at most shows and who knows what the reception it will get, even though most long time fans would absolutely love it.
