I'd love to get a pro mix of the first Grey Street (6.19.00). DMB debut performances of the new tunes in 2000 was so exciting and awesome. Those were the days....

This is the part where Mersh casually throws in how much of the Phish Fall '97 run he saw.

I know I'm in the minority with this... Perhaps I'm the only 1 that thinks this but I would put JUNE 97 at least equal to if not slightly better than the Winter 98 tour.

Tough because of all the BTCS songs in rotation in 98 but the Bela guest spots in that 97 run are unmatched to me. Just something about how the band and him were playing then that really stands out to me. Plus the 2 shows Popper guested as well.

I hear you, but kind of hard to compare the two. DMB was basically a different band in Winter '98--they had both Tim and Butch at the same time, which created a totally different dynamic. But I could definitley support the fact that they are equal in terms of performance and quality but very different beasts indeed. Summer '97 has also been the most underrepresented era thus far in Live Trax and DMBLive. So I think more people are just longing for it than usual.

I'm not longing for any to be officially released. I was there in 97. Have recordings of a bunch of those 97 shows. Same goes for that Winter 98 run.
I'm saying based on my personal experiences and preference I think that JUNE 97 through Red Rocks in early July is/was a little more enjoyable to me. Their playing and sound, especially w Bela. Compare the Two Steps w Bela from both years and they are vastly different.

Yeah, it's all personal taste really. I think both months (June 97 and December 98) are pretty on par with each other, but it depends what kind of sound you like more. Agreed.

Yup. It's anecdotal and all that, but I was at 6/10/97 and 12/2/98, and I preferred the 97 show. I've always been a big Popper/BT fan as well, so that helps, but I love the "feel" of those 6/97 shows.
