Fixing to smoke a blunt at my desk, and thats a bad thing, not cause I'd get fired or anything, we are just slow enough that no one is here and the phones arent ringing. So basically I'm a body in a seat for a few more hours.

I just looked at my watch and did a triple take, been one of those days. Been on a non-stop conference call for most of the day and there's still plenty of day left.

Thats one thing I cant stand about my job. 2-3 a week at 4-5 hours a piece about doing drug screens. I get it, I make sure they dont have anything on them, they piss in a cup. Its not that difficult. 4-5 hours of some asshole reading a reissue of a 5000 page manuscript. What the hell.

I don't claim to be smarter than anyone.
Except

My supervisor. i work for Xerox. In a call center. MetLife contracted out it's call center to Xerox for it's Tricare plan. So I work for Xerox in a building owned by Lexmark. I am a customer service rep for the metlife Tricare plan. It is a plan for the family of active duty soldiers families and reservists.

My supervisor swears up and down that NASA turned him down for it's Mars colony project because he is too short. NASA astronauts tend to have degrees in multiple fields. My supervisor has no degree and his last job before signing on with Xerox was bagging groceries at Winn Dixie

Look at the education of any astronaut. I like to use Story Musgrave as an example because he spent time at the University of Kentucky. All of these people are brilliant scinetific minds. Then my sup claims to have been selected by NASA.

Last night he said he was second in line for a Mars colinzation project being planned by NASA. I put my call on hold just to yell out "NO YOU ARE NOT" and he ranted about how the tryout and how hard it was.

Holy FUCK I hate my job

That is absolutely ridiculous. Of COURSE he was selected; they cant just send a crew to Mars without a resident idiot to fuck everything up so we can learn from it!

It sucks when your company is so short handed, you have no choice but to work 6 days. Then, you don't get overtime for the 6th day. Called my Union rep. Want to see what the contract says. This is some bullshit if I won't get my overtime.

We do insurance exams and my job is to work with the examiners, do quality control of the actual paperwork, control their schedules, confirm their appointments and so on. For some reason we keep the DUMBEST fucking examiners and fire the good ones. Nothing pisses me off more than someone who doesnt know what their doing. Or doesnt know how to draw blood. Its so scary to see the older ladies in our office compared to these fresh out of school examiners these days. The basic skills that used to come natural arent even taught anymore. I wouldnt be surprised if in the future no one knew how to draw blood.

well that may be relative to your region; I know plenty of good ones, and some fairly new ones, too (2-3 years out).

I'm just hoping it didn't come out of the toilet because I've sat on a toilet with a snake in it when I was young... Scarred me for life.

edit: partly due to the fact that I was mid potty-training at the time. Might have to seal myself up today.

Relevant: my current job sucks.

Less relevant: Does anyone have suggestions on how to break into full-time office positions at universities? I think HR employees are very strict on following procedure (i.e. not interested in responding to prospecting or follow up emails) because all correspondence is public record. Is that correct? I'm not trying to jeopardize anyone's career, but how do you network into these positions?

One of my counterparts (a Project Manager) put in his notice Monday. Today, I'm learning all about what he's transitioning to me. Basically, it's all the shit you can tell he never wanted to deal with throughout his project. Awesome.
