It's only a matter of time before I leave my company. They absolutely do not give a crap about their employees at all. I learned that big business is not for me. I respect small business much more. Besides, I have entrepreneurial aspirations anyway and want to live my life with no regrets, so I'm thinking of taking the risks now, while I am still young.

I work in the government -- there are times where I'm annoyed by the fact that there's zero upward potential as far as salary goes (if the government has a good year, I don't get a bonus) and that I'm paid well below market rate for someone with my experience and expertise, but that usually takes a back seat to the incredible flexibility and amazing group of co-workers that I have.

Found out today I'm only getting HALF of the raise I was promised in early April. I smoked on it awhile but I'm still fuckin pissed. Said they would meet with me and hear me out; not sure what Im gonna say but I have plenty of evidence that Im already working for half of the pay I should be pulling. They're dreaming if they think Im signing on for fulltime at this pay. I make so much more only working parttime for those folks.

Fuck

Yea, sometimes going on salary screws you over. It's an excuse for companies to work you like a dog. I work like 70+ hours per week, but only get paid for 40.

Yeah, I'll be going that route in the next month or two. Hoping my workload is a little lighter than it is now though and the pay bump makes up for the lost 2-3 hours of OT per week.

Question.

And don't judge me.

Does anyone know how to find out about good jobs abroad? My trip to Europe has left me with no desire to want to live and work in the United States anymore. May be a pipe dream, but worth asking.

If I wasn't in a serious relationship, I would have considered the same thing.

With our debt, they might as well just lie to the applicants and tell them that they will give million dollar bonuses if the government has a good year

Jokes aside, I know exactly what you mean about coworkers. I started my first job at a family pharmacy when I was 15 for $6.17 an hour. Most kids moved on to better jobs before high school even ended, but I stayed there for 8 years until the chain stores finally put us out of business after 75+ years. I learned so much from my coworkers who had become my second family, that it was all worth it in the end

I'm going to shoot myself. I can't stand conference calls, especially with people who talk WAY TOO MUCH.

Any software developers here? Curious to hear some views from developers about the SW Architect role if someone has to interact with one regularly.

I'm procrastinating right now from writing car headlines for Infiniti. So bored. Ad life isn't as fun and exciting as Mad Men makes it seem.

Infiniti: If you have $40k to burn, why not?

I just got out of a company meeting (only about 60 people in the company) where people clapped at anything the CEO said. I hate that shit more than anything. What a kiss ass culture we live in.

I work at HQ for a company with 35k employees and one of my favorite things is our quarterly all employee meeting the CEO has. He talks for about a half hour about the previous quarter and how we're doing and then takes questions. The great thing is that people haven't been shy about calling him out for things they don't like or weren't properly followed up on. It's just a fun time to see the regulars get to grill the big guys for a bit. To his credit he always takes it well and answers with about as much honesty and lack of spin as he can
