Here comes the shitshow

I agree with the sentiment here though. This gig (if the details are true)

I'm not getting that worked up about it but I get some people's outrage... the band uses it's charitable works to market itself to certain people so doing a private show for big tobacco is pretty hypocritical... not to mention the big push about the Summer and Fall tours being their last shows for a while, but they can make time for this... it is pretty shitty.

The fact that C'ville wasn't their last show doesn't bother me much. It was their last public show, but if they want to do something private it's their call. But big tobacco is so sleazy. Something like Apple or Best Buy, while they may not have spotless records, are small potatoes compared to how morally bankrupt that industry is.

I mean, I smoke; I shouldn't throw stones, and I'm not worked up about it as much as I'm sure others are, but I think it's fair to make a distinction between something like Target and this. Especially with the lung cancer benefit.

Unless, as someone stated before, they end up giving all the money to a lung cancer charity, which would make it very worth it.

Come on, diss. I grant them a fair amount of rope, but playing a private show for Phillip Morris, if they pocket the cash, is pretty sleazy.

My only guess is as to why they could be doing this is maybe they want to give the crew another payday before they go on break. Probably getting a good amount for this. I heard that Dave & Tim's booking fee was somewhere between 250k-500k. Could only imagine what the full band gets for a private show

i just can't act like i care about this. i'm a smoker, i don't have any passionate feelings towards the tobacco company one way or the other, and if the check is big enough i'd play a show for them too.

edit: i get that it's morally questionable. but comments like "Playing a corporate gig for fucking phillip morris at cowboy Stadium (for 800 people in a 100k stadium) is the epitome of selling out. Guess dave wants to make sure he'll be able to play another Stand Up for a Cure Benefit in the future. Fucking hypocritic assholes. Life is short but sweet for certain, smoke up boys."

and

"if not, I'm going to have a real problem with supporting this band any more afterwards."

are hilariously over the top that i can only hope, considering who said them, that they're sarcastic

It wouldn't even be the full summer crew though, so this logic is flawed. I'm sure it's just the essential people going.

I asked a crew member on Friday in Vegas the difference between D&T and DMB in terms of crew members and he said there are only 17 people needed for D&T. I counted 68 crew mug shots on the road page. So everything is stripped down, there is no catering and a lot fewer trucks.

This is probably why the road page doesn't get updated live. The guy who does it isn't needed for D&T.

Can't blame PM for trying to earn a profit, your retarded if you still smoke knowing the info we know now. You the smoker have a choice to quit, and stop feeding these company's millions. So I see no harm in playing corporate gigs, play for an hour and half and make a million, tell me you wouldn't do that in a heart beat.

I mean, really, if there is demand. They aren't forcing you to smoke, while addictive, you can quit. I smoked for 6 years, and quit cold turkey when my uncle died of lung cancer, although he did work in a mine too, so it wasn't all because of the cigs.
