Remembering Grux (R.I.P. LeRoi Moore: 9.7.61 - 8.19.08)

UPDATE 08/19/08

LEROI MOORE 1961-2008
We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.
A note from myself to the members of this DMB community.

I think we are all heartbroken over tonight's news. The pure shock alone of all this is devastating enough, but it is when we first initiate the step to come to terms with the reality of this news that it can truly be paralyzing. While there are very few of us here who can say we knew LeRoi Moore personally, the connection we all had with his music was real. Although there is an uncertainty of what may lie ahead for the Dave Matthews Band and its fans, their gift of music is ongoing. When we are speechless, when words get the best of us, when words are simply not enough... the music will be there for us all, and LeRoi with every note.

Long live The Matthews Band.

An Important Announcement From DMBand.com

UPDATE 07/18/2008
Last night LeRoi Moore was readmitted to the University of Virginia Health System due to complications stemming from his recent accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with LeRoi and his family.

UPDATE 07/08/2008
LeRoi’s condition has been upgraded from fair to good. Again, we’d like to thank everyone for all of the kind well wishes that LeRoi has received. Ecards may still be sent directly to LeRoi at the UVA hospital by clicking here. Mail may also be sent to LeRoi at the following address: Post Office Box 1467, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or to [Only registered users can see links.] .

UPDATE 07/01/2008 LeRoi has been upgraded from serious to fair condition.

DMBand.com Road Page Notes:
It's a day of swirling emotions out here on the road. We're immensely saddened by LeRoi's absence after his accident yesterday. After his first full day of recovery, we're learning that his condition is improving. Dave and Carter spent a few hours at his side this morning, laughing together and talking. He's alert and cracking jokes already. They commented on how much they were heartened and excited after leaving the hospital, knowing that he's going to be alright. Dave announced to the audience tonight "He was beat up real good, but he's going to be fine." Jeff Coffin has really stepped up to the plate. We are honored that he chose to drop everything at the last minute to fly out and sit in during Roi's time away. Jeff sat in a room with Rashawn all afternoon, learning parts. We were all amazed at how well he did tonight. A true professional. We're keepin' on with the keepin' on. See y'all in Raleigh tomorrow.

Get well LeRoi...We love ya!

Indeed, I was surprised when I started listening to shows...I've only heard a few from this year, but I had heard from other postings that Roi was barely into it, not taking any initiative or adding anything new. Everything I've heard, he's been all over it. I was really struck by DDTW from 6-28; he was trying new stuff in the song I'd never heard him do before.

Roi's really had a much, much better year so far. His duels with Tim in Crush have been fantastic.

Wow that's horrible, but Jeff Coffin. Too bad they both couldn't be on stage.

I'm sure Coffin was happy to help considering the situation of his good friend and friends in the band. Jesus Christ.
