Early '07 was rough for Roi. I remember thinking he was basically MIA from the Mansfield shows that year, but he definitely came back with a vengeance later that tour and into June of '08. He went out at the top of his game

I mean he literally walked off stage for ~45 minutes of those mansfield shows. N2 he walked off stage during Seek Up (the opener), LIOG, and Bartender (he wanted nothing to do with that didgeridoo solo). I want to say he left during Grace as well, but i cant remember too well because it was that Black water interpolation developing.

His Grace solo was non-existent, I'm pretty sure he bailed on that one too. Thank God I saw some good shows in June of '08 because if that show had been my last memory of Roi it would have sucked.

Yeah, he was diabetic, and if I remember correctly, for the first half of 2007 he didn't give a rats ass about anything concerning the Dave Matthews Band. Seemed like he started to turn things around at the VA Tech show, after guesting with John Mayer. Not that the two things correlate, but it's interesting to think about.

He threw the first night of '08 and quickly got really good. The Crush sax/guitar battles. But he could never play the sax part of Money

'07 was a really good year for Roi musically though. Part of why I want 11/13/07 released aside from being a great setlist and because I was there...is because Roi is simply on fire the whole show, and I hadn't heard him play like that in many years. I think that year left some uncertainty whether the band would continue since they nearly broke up earlier in the year, and for some reason seemed to motivate Roi to play at a high level again. Just my .02 cents.
You don't suffer from stage fright after 200 years of playing every night.. that fades away. Just saying.

If you don't realize "200 years" is a joke.. well.. then.. don't know what to tell ya.

The amount of performances the man did from 1989 to 2008 is unfathomable.

Please, tell me more about mental illness, doc. Now before anyone shits themselves, I'm not trying to insinuate that Roi had a mental illness, but to be completely dismissive of someones fear or phobia is asinine. Things like that don't always just "fade away."

This isn't always true though. Some people never get over the fear of playing in front of people. Normally you would get used to it for sure, but everyone's different man. Some people have severe anxiety and insecurity issues and every time they get in front of people it terrifies them to death. I never knew Roi personally at all nor did probably anyone on this forum...so we can't say for sure..but I'm not ruling it out because there are stories of famous people that literally drove themselves to suicide over stage fright.

Dave said in an interview that he caught Roi asleep on stage a few times. That says it all

9. I'm sure this has probably surfaced before but I hadn't seen it and thought it was a noteworthy piece ... re: Roi's fiance's journey with using her art to honor him:

I'm looking forward to my annual listen of Grace is Gone from Blossom 2006. It's on our Soundcloud page if anyone hasn't heard it.
