Yeah, all musicians stay exactly the same at all times. They never get any worse, and certainly NEVER get any better. Buddy has just started playing with DMB. What he knows with them now is all he will ever know - no matter how long he stays with them. To think anything else is absolutely foolish.

I can see Buddy catching a case of the RR's.. I really like him so far but I don't see him toning things down. I don't love the church vibe, and wish he'd play more jazz like Butch did. We heard bits and pieces of it, especially in those Bartender jams, but overall I sure hope he doesn't start playing more for show and less for our ears.

The biggest problem with that is that DMB just seems to be moving away from subtlety all together.

When they do it though, they are really great. (see VITR - which of course they never play now).

You’re right, he’ll definitely get more tasteful. The constant over the top ball washing from Dave should help.

I dont want to hear keyboard solos. I felt like they went over the top trying to highlight him.

Buddy needs to vary his tone more. Not every song or every fill sounds best with an organ. Play some nice clean piano tones. Play some thick, funky clavinet.

I think it's too early to really judge and compare. That being said I was never a really huge fan of Butch, I felt like he slowed things down, he meandered in most of his solos and overall was happy when he exited and Tim came in.

I think thus far Buddy has added a lot to the music and performances, some of the 2018 rotation songs were sounding better than they have in years thanks to his contributions to the arrangements.

I think a better poll would be Butch's first full year vs. Buddy's first full year. I think that comparison makes more sense since, as most everyone has mentioned, Buddy has only played a single summer with DMB.

What would we consider Butch’s first year? 2000?
