A few of them, but you have to admit the two step solo on CP is a masterpiece. I really liked his solos on Bartender too. LIOG ones were hit or miss but when they were good, they were great.

Posts 2 and 3 sum it up. 95 and 00 are my two favorite DMB years and Butch was a part of the latter, so...

Butch Taylor PROS & CONS

Pros:
Nuanced and subtle.
Better soloist.
Leaks unreleased studio material

Cons:
Doesn't get along with the band.
Some solos dragged.
Shares name with a porn star, so Googling him can be problematic.

Buddy Strong PROS & CONS

Pros:
Can sing his ass off.
Energentic.
More of a showman.
Band is head over heals in love with him.

Cons:
Not nearly as familar with the catalog yet.
Can be overbearing at times.
Keeps setlist in plain site on his keyboard for the cameras to broadcast at shows.
Hasn't leaked anything yet.

Buddy makes some songs sound like I'm watching at a tent revival. That said, give him a year or two to even out, if he sticks around.

I voted for Buddy. I like Butch and how he relied more on the piano, but he could be very boring

A more accurate poll, given the instrumentation *void* these guys have filled over the years, might be to include Griesar(?)

Also, interesting hypothetical... What if you played the mental game of switching the time frame of Butch and Buddy's presence in the band. Buddy in place of Butch's years, Butch in place of Buddy's tour last year. Would we think of them any differently, and would it have changed the way the band sounds now?

I voted for Butch. FWIW.

Ain't nobody picking Peter Griesar over either one of these guys.

I mean... ain't nobody picking Dennis Hof either... but then he died.

Spoiler:
Actually 2018 America would've picked Dennis Hof... so.... I digress.

I feel like Butch slowed the entire band down on stage. May just have coincided with that time frame but his solos did nothing for me. Maybe a good one every now and then but made me want to FFW thru the solos that dragged. I prefer rocking DMB 4.0 or whatever we are on now.

I don't disagree, but it seemed like people were all over Buddy Strong this year.

One played subtle, awesome fills.. another plays an organ and mimics the missing violin parts.

This isn't even really a discussion, is it?

I like what Buddy brings...but Butch fit perfectly and created a great soundscape. I feel like Buddy will do that next time around.

Buddy has been singing too much. He’s not bad but they never know how to do things sparingly, except playing their good songs
