Not enough data to support Buddy, yet.

Hard to say at this point. Buddy has been a great inclusion though. And over the course of the tour I found he carved out his place a lot better in terms of tones, levels, and vocals.

I'll need at least one professionally mixed released Buddy show before I can judge, I think. I've spent a lot of time listening to all of the nuance Butch added.

Buddy fit in faster but not necessarily better.
Butch sound fits the dmb vibe overall better where Buddy is more rock

I realize this is an elitist music asshole thing to say, but they all are so compressed I find them unlistenable.

Buddy.

Butch solos bored me to tears. Buddy does a better job of complimenting their sound and that is all i want a keyboard to do in this band. Not be a standout instrument.

But I would argue he stands out more than Butch. His on stage personality and singing alone. Have you heard Stay from last year? Also, Superstition.

I'm not really -- his run from '00-'04 is one of the strongest periods in the band's touring history.

too early to call at this point. but my gut feeling is that i will end up preferring Buddy, but that might be just because i like DMB's overall sound without Boyd so much that my bias is skewing my perception

Really too early to vote, but if forced I think I'd go with Butch. As much as I dislike his boring solos on Two Step and such, I am just not a fan of organ in DMB.

That said, Buddy seems to have been moving in the right direction throughout the tour, so in the next year or so my vote might change.

Generally, Buddy has been a great addition.

I liked Butch okay, but Buddy is much more interesting.

I really like the organ and his vocal contributions. And I think his ceiling is a lot higher than Butch's.

Why would it make someone an elitist asshole to prefer better sounding recordings? The last 25 years of radio loudness wars has totally fucked the average person’s expectations for a good, dynamic recording.

Butch was great for DMB at the time he was there. Buddy seems to be great for DMB where they are now. Since I like the Butch era a whole lot more, and definitely prefer his style, Butch is an easy choice for me.

Way too early to compare. You’re comparing a guy who was on one summer tour to a guy who played in this band for 10 years, and was in the studio with them.

It took Butch a few years to really develop his role and play a major part In the band. But if Forced to compare at this moment clearly Butch. Much more tasteful player and enjoyed how he fit into the mix. I can barely hear anything Buddy plays, he’s turned down so low in the mix for one thing, and he doesn’t get that many solo opportunities really. Butch knew how to build his solos, Buddy hasn’t gotten there.

Either way better get used to Buddy cause he’s sticking around, seems like Dave and the band love him.
