This album cycle is nothing short of bizarre. If you would've told me the hardcore fans here would like Batson's return to the producer's chair as much or more than Lillywhite's, let alone Batson fully writing a song for it, let alone the album closer which puts it in league with Proudest Monkey, Spoon and #34 I would've...well I don't know what, but I certainly wouldn't have believed you.
Itís weird for sure, I think that song is pretty disappointing and I wish that one, CoCo and Here on Out would just not exist... That album is a big leap ahead of stand up but itís still a solid 6/7 to me and I rarely listen to more than one or two tracks off of it. I like the unfinished sessions way more and wish something like Bismarck, Sugar Will, Kill the King, Shotgun, Drive Me Away, Good Good Time, CrazyEasy etc has been on it. Sadly as long as they donít royally fuck everything up ala 2001 and 2005 Iíll take it.

AFTW was probably the last time we will see the band not getting mucked with and pulled around by producers. They apparently hate that album as much as most of this board does for whatever reason... Soyeah, Batson is what we get. At least Ballard wasnít brought back, then again those songs have gotten better over the years so this band is just a headache to be really into.

Has anyone checked out the remaster the guy did over at Ants? Actually pretty cool. Everything flows very well.

I didnít care for it. Didnít think it was sonically any different, just louder. I made my own culled playlist when the sessions came out and am happy with it.

This.

These songs aren't the LWS, no need to polish them up beyond what they are.

Can’t wait to see how ForkInFork spins a yarn to explain how he’s actually Mark Bateson himself.

Still enjoying these, by and large. Still think there are several tunes in this mix that should have been spared the reservoirs of the back of Dave's brain and the cutting room floor.

Just a friendly reminder that people are generally slumbering on this material.

They're cool, but it's no Lillywhite Sessions, those were far more finished than the Batson demos and I think that has a lot to do with it.

Yeah these truly feel like demos for the most part. Not many songs to really go back to often.

I've gone back to a handful of these songs more than any release in many years. This is my go-to playlist:

Situation
Ask
ABC
Recovered
Shotgun
Drive me away
Celebrate

Good tunes.

yeah most of the stuff sounds like crap production wise. You can tell how good the ideas were if they were polished and what not, but, in no way does this stuff sound remotely finished to me, and literally everything doesn't even have most of the band playing on it. It's an album of Dave, Carter and Stefan for the most part.

These sessions are like if we had only got the "2nd disc" of the LWS. Batson said there are more finished versions. Hell, we've already heard some of them.
