Some of the best albums have the fewest songs. Wish You Were Here comes to mind.

I think 9-11 songs is the sweet spot, regardless of format.

I usually expect 10-12, but yeah. There are definitely great albums that are longer, but it is really hard to do much more than an hour that is fully worthwhile.

Yeah, not a fan of double albums or albums with extra fat.

There are double albums that work, either because they manage to not have any filler or because they really lean into the filler and make it work on its own. But for every Quadrophenia or White Album, there are a dozen The Walls (yeah, I said it).

Bought it yesterday. It's bittersweet. But I haven't heard a bad Petty album yet.

The Last DJ and Let Me Up Iíve Had Enough (although I love Jamminí Me) are pretty bad, IMO.

I think my favourite double album is Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. But even it has a couple songs I'd toss.

Some seem front-loaded to the extreme, like The Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The most cohesive in terms of a narrative might just be Pink Floyd's The Wall.

And The Beatles' 'White album' may be the most fun and musically diverse.

But, yeah, an 11 song album is usually best. We had the best of both world when Tom Waits released Blood Money and Alice on the same day back in 2002.
