He was conducting an interview. The questions and Steve's answers are what is important.
That’s just one example, there were a few others.

It’s just constructive criticism (something this community, as an aside, confuses with “attacks” far too often), obviously overall Matt did an amazing job. I just like when an interview sort of evolves organically and goes where it goes, as long as the general topic remains the same.

Charlie Rose, pre-sexual assault, was a master at this style of interview. Throw a topic out there but then let the conversation go where it goes. I think that’s when people open up the most.

my only concern about the longevity of Norlander's podcast is: he's clearly someone like us who has invested a lot of time as a dmb fan. just the way he talks about the band, you can tell he's been on the boards and all that.

given that there are only so many hours in a day, how many other bands can this guy know this well in order to have interviews that are this in-depth?

Couldn’t agree more. Once Lillywhite started making things interesting the interviewer made him “get back on task”, as if god forbid he couldn’t ask every single question he had written down. I get it if there was a time limit issue or something, but I prefer the interviews like that as well, as long as it’s interesting.

I wonder what kind of shit Steve has on BT besides being a lackluster violinist.

Boyd tried to fuck Steve, refused, and then got fired over it?

When first hearing Lillywhite’s comment in this podcast about dreaming tree representing the last stand of dave’s song writing I rebuffed it, as my brain immediately jumped to Captain and BEF from the LWS. But I’m listening to BTCS now, as there was no way I was letting the 20th anniversary of my all time favorite album go by w/o giving it a spin, and I just hit Dreaming Tree. Steve is right! Dreaming Tree was dave summing up the entirety of the band. There is a begining, where purity, innocence, and a skies the limit mentality lead the way. Then, eventually, before we would like to think, everything is corrupted. On the studio cut (afaik, never replicated live) Dave very clearly says, “Too much time,” before going into the “take me back, save me please,” part. And that is just it! He basically hit empty here. He was a victim of ‘too much time.’

Everything is perfect, to a point. Then, it fades. It turns. That is what everything in dreaming tree is. That is what this band is. That is what life is. Too much time and we all get got. It sounds so fucking stupid but Lillywhite talks about ‘big money,’ changing everything following this album. This was the last stand. This was literally ‘before these crowded streets’ for dmb. Dave was predicting nothing would ever be the same after this and, 20 years has shown us, it never was.
God damn Jack
