I'm going with a 7; knowing what we know and hearing what we've heard from the LWS doesn't subtract from these songs enough, for me, to go any less.

Only tracks I really go to are Grey Street, Busted Stuff and Raven. Everything else I prefer the LWS.

Songs are obviously great, but I am not a fan of the overall sound of the album. It's like it was recorded in a wet bathroom.

Went with an 8. More so because of the quality of songs than the quality of production.

It's a step down from LWS, but some great gems still. You Never Know is the best song the band has written since the big 3 and nothing they've written since has topped it.

WAYG still blows.

In a lot of cases, these songs could have been better, which we know because they are better on the LWS. But, judging strictly from the album, I’d give it a 6. The songs are obviously great, a few of them are very well done, most feel kind of like the band just wanted to get them out of the way. But even that doesn’t ruin them, and I’ll always believe that if the LWS hadn’t leaked everybody would love it, because it really only suffers in comparison.

Like always, I'm rating by what's on the album, and not what's not on the album.

I still hate that Roi doesn’t play the soprano on BS. I always wondered why the sax switch.

9 for me. It’s the album that got me hardcore into the band. Didn’t have a huge pre-existing attachment to the LWS, so I appreciated this album fresh. I still go to shows wanting BS songs more than most other songs.

That was, verbatim, the exact same thought I had.

Wish they'd kept Captain dark, but I understand why it isn't. Raven's lyrics, while finished, still make no sense. Slide guitar on Grace is Gone is forced. Removing the lyrics from Kit Kat Jam was an improvement. Grey Street is pretty much perfect. Ditch is solid, as well....though there were aspects of the LWS version that I miss. Big Eyed Fish is gutted compared to a year prior. Bartender is still a perfect DMB track, but it went from 11 on the LWS to a 10 on Busted Stuff. The title track is standard and WAYG is a complete afterthought. You Never Know is the real MVP.

All that said, it gets a solid 7 from me.

I’m just here to remind you to put in the ‘0’ option for the next album

Ah yeah, good call on Ditch. That's also a nice track.

I prefer Busted Stuff's Big Eyed Fish. I understand I might be the only one. I don't like the cold opening to it on the LWS and I feel Dave singing the chorus in a way that just isn't in the LWS. Maybe he didn't have the connection to it at the time that he did two years later.

Still talking like a 9 vs. an 8, but it's a clear preference to me.

I hear that. I prefer LWS mostly for the jam. If only we could splice the two, where they'd play the Busted Stuff 'guts' of the song and then the LWS bonkers ending.

totally agree. The BS version uses the outro more as a prelude to Bartender. I love how the song sounds otherwise though on the record.

Probably like a 7.5 for me.

The songs are a 9 though.

It's almost impossible to grade this album properly because I can't separate your comparative feelings for certain tracks as they were on LWS. I'd love to know how I'd feel about it if I had only ever heard BS.
