Completely agree with everything Nick said. VITR is a fantastic studio track. The production of that particular track is absolutely perfect too, from the balance of Carter and Stefan, to Tim's additions which aren't just background noises, rather effects that carry that eerie reflective vibe throughout the tune and Dave's vocals aren't too overbearing and allow the slow groove to remain the ear-catching aspect of the tune. Also, again, Rashawn not honking on this and the "horn section" stems are so well placed underneath the core arrangement. Also I like Carter's subtle play especially the accents he adds during the chorus.

I think someone compared VITR to Lying In The Hands of God and I think that was more because the slower paced approach seemed similar. I'm not comparing VITR to anything. I think it has it's own flow, it's own emotion and production. I just think it's a flat-out GREAT studio cut. Now in a live setting...it's just ok. I think for me, what throws this tune up to great heights is the balance of everyone on the track, especially when we're in an age where at the very least 1 musician is drowning everyone out whether it be Ross, or Tim or Carter thrashing and double-kick hits, Dave screaming, etc... This album exemplified restraint from this band which is something I wish they would re-learn, and imho, VITR is the PRIME example of that.

It's a great song.

I’ll take Loving Wings live every show. The end jam ( over 50% of the song) is top notch Carter and Jeff

But Loving Wings is a complete bore with absolutely no melody for 8 mins and then speeds up.

"Oooohhh ooooooo ohhhh ohhhhh"

Dave sounds like the Sandlot kids after they get off the carnival ride with their tobacco mishap.
Hot take right here.

Every single show. The jam is well over 50% of the song and it's as organic and impressive a showing as the band gets. Next to Sugar Will from '04, LW with Roi and Carter was my favourite jam post 2000.

Agree with Brandon that VITR is very balanced, with no one trying to play over everyone else.

I’d also add that this song would benefit from a violin adding to its eerie vibe, ala blue water.

But it doesn’t. It’s a cool sounding, very well produced song that goes nowhere. After 3 mins I’m looking for something to happen or end. But it keeps going for 3 more and nothing changes.

I’d rather hear it live Dave and Tim on guitars.

I actually really did the Dave solo version from Bristow and the Sirus XM show.

Yep. It's really uninteresting. LW is a totally different song, that has a huge jam that builds with a climatic Sax solo. This song doesn't even have sax on it at all...which is another huge qualm. DMB already lost the violin, we need to keep the sax element at least for Christ sakes. There are certainly worse studio cuts, but to say it's the best thing they've recorded in over a decade is taking the ball washing too far. Did you all forget the cringe-y lyrics in this song too? It's a cute image and message, but it's nothing I'm going to get excited over. It's more "I love being a dad" type stuff to me.

The best part of CT album is the 20 second Jeff solo in BBB. That's literally the only time on the entire album where I take a deep breath and say, "there's DMB. That's my band."

When it's played live, I actually prefer Virginia on the Rain with Dave on the piano.

Settle down. I don't dislike it. I just think it's less exciting than you do.

VITR studio is definitely a really strong tune. I haven't listened to it live much but it's a tough song for a amphitheater I feel.

I've still never seen anything like the bathroom/drink exodus that happened at Mansfield in '18 when it started up. Half the place cleared out almost instantly, it was crazy.

Yeah, it’s not a good live song. I hated it when they first started playing it, but the studio version is a fantastic track. It’s not a great song, but it’s a great recording and really stands out on the album.
