At this point, the one and only thing he brought in recent years(a dynamic stage presence) seems to have vanished. If he's not going to play a part in the creative process, and he's not going to bring something to the live show, then there's no reason left for him to remain in the band. I guess I don't really care either way since they sound fine now and BW showed they could make a good album without much from Boyd anyway. But a prominent, consistent violin sound would be nice.

I honestly think, at this point, the band with no violin player would be marginally better than one with Boyd. Frankly, I'd rather see Jeff take more solos anyway.

And if Boyd wasn't supposed to be playing those lines, I bet Tim and Jeff/Rashawn would do a better job at covering them.

No, losing one core member was enough. He'll get it back one day.

I agree. But at the same time they are DMB and could get any violin player they wanted. So I'd love to see them bring some top talent in.

if boyd leaving is the final straw for typsitch and he bounces that's only another positive.

Nobody knows the whole story here. I wonder if management or the band has already or should get involved with trying to promote some encouragement. I'd like to see a wholehearted effort on that front - especially from the band - on getting him more involved before I'd say it's a lost cause. Hell, give him another True Reflections if that's what it takes. Probably better lyrics than Dave can come up with now anyways.

I don't think producing another solo album that will only sell a few thousand copies will do much to build his confidence.

What they need to start muting is Dave's lyrics on Blackjack.

I posted it last night, but still feel this is the best role for Boyd in the band going forward:

Hey, that's a fucking horrible song all around, no arguments here.

Nonetheless, when even your own band's sound people have obviously completely given up on you as a musician, maybe it's time to take a bow.
