Help Myself studio version

Perhaps the most forgotten DMB studio track.

SUMMER'S HERE! :rawk

Back to it...

Ants Marching 7/25/15

Boyd is great on this one. Man, I miss him in the band.

Such a great studio track. I love the way the guitars sound. Dave's voice is so sharp and Carter is a beast.

Recently 7/29/15

Such a happy song. Boyd is good on this version.

Wow, this Grace is Gone just keeps going. It's from 7/31/15.

Everyone is tasteful here. A lovely version.

Captain was botched a bit. (7/31/15)

But who doesn't mind a little more Captain? :)

Now Two Step. Must have delighted the guy calling for it.

Great acoustic set so far.

Wrapping up 7/7/12 N2 @ Alpine. Fantastic show top to bottom with zero repeats from night one. Only complaint is that Dave cannot sing on "If Only". Voice is rotted on that one.
Highlights: Loving wings, raven, 41, dreaming tree, typical
No bad squeeks from Ross

gweeps 08-10-2021 05:10 AM

Continuing with 8/1/15. Nice to hear Dave do a solo Long Black Veil. It's a shame he doesn't think to mix his solo spots up more.

Even though the intro is beyond tired, and the horn section desperately need to be returned to how it used to sound, One Sweet World is still a breezy sounding song, especially in the quieter acoustic setting.

I see Pay, Liog, Bowa and Loving Wings are in this acoustic set. Excellent!

edit: this So Damn Lucky is on fire. Band is tight as hell. First time I've really noticed Boyd on this song.

Boyd is shaky on this Lie in our Graves. :\

A crisp aud by Eric Wallace.

I like it, but don't love it. Needs Bela.

Listening to the incomplete 6/9/92. It's really amazing to hear how musically competent and unique they were even back then. The Maker is such a great cover. Peter's not terrible, but his sound is still a bit overbearing. Did he play actual piano much? Sounds like he liked to use a lot of effects. Anyway, Boyd is perfect, Roi is soulful. The music breathes. Dave sounds like a chipmunk. Stefan and Carter are as reliable as ever.

8/10 and 8/11/02

Two shows before a 2 week summer tour break. We've talked this tour to death but it's still worth mentioning how fun these shows are to listen to.

02-04 was so good. Very few bad shows in there. Peak DMB for sure.

His sound is overbearing on tapes because tapes were mixed for the room. Having Carter, Roi, etc. with natural sound playing to the room means they are mixed lower than say the keyboard with is 100% coming through the speaker, so the tapes will naturally have him way louder as 92 & 93 were always small clubs. A 1992 tape will not sound like it did in Trax. He will sound like the Paul Schaffer Band.

The 1992 Live Trax multi-track is one of the few sources of information on how they actually sounded with Peter, with the multi-track having the ability to mix him for your stereo. We have a few AUDs but they are in bad shape generally.

On my iTunes I put studio Cornbread right after Spaceman on Big Whiskey, and it works really well. They should have left it on the album there.

gweeps 08-11-2021 05:20 PM

Acoustic set from 8/28/15.

a) Oh is just gorgeous with Dave, Tim and Carter.
b) Another energetic Billies.
c) Grace w/ Bela is a must hear.
d) Dave and Tim playing Bartender all the time is tired, sure, but boy do they nail it every time though!
e) Bela on SpaceBread shoulda been the way forward from word go.
