What are you currently listening to? (DMB edition)
We have threads dedicated to official releases, studio albums, Jason's "Listening to Every Show" [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] and even Rob's "Rate a Show" [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] thread, which are really great and fun threads. But we don't have a thread for single-song performances.
So with that in mind, I'd like to know what people are currently listening to. Right now I'm listening to #41 w/ Victor from 6/16/13. Haven't listened to this one in a while. Leading up to Vic's introduction was a great moment, mentioned in the crew notes [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] If you're one of those who really focuses and hates the slow and lulling outros you'll 100% be annoyed here but it's a really solid performance. What are you listening to? |
This was a great performance. And I loved the lets go Bruins chant before that worked perfectly.
|
That must have been one of the last crew notes they wrote for a show. Miss those little posts. And that #41 with Victor is a gem.
I'm listening to Two Step D&T 2/19/99. Quality show. |

I just finished listening to Live at Sweet Briar College and I'm thinking of listening to Live Trax 39, but haven't made my mind up to pull the trigger and buy it.

"Another red hot evening in the books. Tonight's 'Seven' opener sent the Hartford crowd soaring into a frenzy that was only matched later in the evening with particularly energetic renditions of Stand Up's own 'You Might Die Trying' and 'Belly Belly Nice.' A beautiful moment in the encore as Dave, Carter, Tim, and Rashawn played a quiet, stripped down 'Sister' for the appreciative crowd, as many hit the exits to beat traffic before DMB launched into a squaking 'Grey Street' to cap off the evening. See y'all in Camden." -#FakeCrewNotes |

The 11.11.92 Two Step (LT37) is utterly amazing. Could be my favorite released version of it. If anyone on here has yet to check it out...do it now and thank me later.
|
Love 2/19. Probably my least favorite month of that tour but still so damn good

Busted Stuff - 8/25/00 (DMB Live 25)
Butch on the organ during the chorus is such a great touch, and it's really cool to compare it to LT3 just a couple of nights later. |
2.19.99 was a fun watch :upyours

Streaming LT11 on Spotify, haven't listened to it in a while (aside from the LIOG which gets regular listens from me).

Proudest Monkey (Mansfield 6/7/96) from Warehouse 8 Volume 1
Leroi is fabulous. One of my favorite versions despite Dave and his ramble about CNN :smoke |
Roi’s intro to PNP>Rapunzel from Orlando ‘98 is just phenomenal. It’s him at his best, even if it’s a short one. Love it.

Really would be sweet if Trouble gets some play this summer with DMB..a song everyone would welcome that they definitely don't need Boyd for. I wouldn't be surprised if that one's a lock. They might play a lot off that album for that exact reason that they don't need the violin for it. Wouldn't hold my breath, but makes sense. Some of these classic songs are going to be utterly brutal though without him. Despite his crappy playing, The sound of the violin missing in these songs is going to be tough for stuff like Billies, Ants, Crush, Nancies, Warehouse, etc. every night. I don't know if I can handle it. Maybe for once they'll decide to give those songs a break for this tour like they did with Two Step in '16--only play them a couple times each. One can dream.

Aside from performances where he obviously stands out with a solo, One Sweet World from 8/5/00 is one of my favorite performances featuring Butch. His additions within this version are so fluid and make me miss him more than ever. What he added to songs like this is what I truly miss.
A lot of really great performances of OSW over the years but this version from 8/6/00 is easily in my top 10, right behind 4/20/02. |
Man, I miss old One Sweet World.
|
I always drift back to the '97 tour during the winter months |

Seek Up - 5/11/99
Roi's a beast on this outro. |
I've been listening to everything DMB I have uploaded to my Google Play Music cloud on shuffle this week, skipping through whenever I feel the need. Currently: Crush from the Live Trax 2008 release. Such a badass outro.
Next up: PNP->Rapunzel from Live at Wrigley Field, haven't listened to this release much. |

Help Myself (studio cut)
I love this damn recording. :rawk |
Made a compilation “album” of my favorite studio tracks since 2005:
Squirm Lying in the Hands of God American Baby Broken Things #27 Hello Again (AUS Release) Beach Ball Eh Hee Why I Am (Demo) Joyride Seven Rooftop Write a Song Snow Outside Drunken Soldier Not a bad little album. |
It's still not as good as any individual album before 2005 though.

Listened to BTCS straight through for the first time in a couple years last week.
I remember when I started listening to DMB, people said they were better live, but this album is damn good from the studio. |

I have always found it a testament to just how firggin' phenomenal BTCS is that it is universally considered their best album. You have the big 3, but streets is unquestionable their best. Whether it is SLW, people on this site, or Batson the other day. It is never even a question.
Conversely, I think this is why the LWS exploding hurt so bad. Especially with what we have. You had an honest chance to give it a run for its money. |

Big Whiskey
I still think this is a pretty diverse sounding album, like a carnival of sorts. Would it have been different with Roi? Probably. More Boyd involvement? Hopefully. But they really tried with this one. And it's all I ask of them. I think I'd rank Big Whiskey above Away from the World. At least I find myself listening to it more often straight through. AftW is definitely the better produced effort, but I prefer BW's sound. I think there's a difference, subtle as it may be. Cavallo captured the energy of the band whereas Lillywhite gets the musicianship. |

|
I think Big Whiskey sounds like how 3.0 DMB is supposed to sound, where as AFTW was the band trying to sound like they used to, and it kind of came off that way to me. I always say, they're not the same band anymore, and they shouldn't feel the need to be. There's a lot about 3.0 I don't like, but I've really embraced it at this point. If they fine tune things (less Rashawn squealing, more Jeff, more subtle Tim, Less loud Carter) it would be miles better. I'd much rather them move in a specifc direction than try to be a shell of what they used to be.

11/5/98 - The Last Stop
Unless Tim is using a strange effect in here, it sounds like LeRoi is playing the flute in places. Either way, I like it. |
